high pitch squeel from speakers (noise filters)

hi,
i seem to just start getting a bad wine thru my speakers while my car is running during cd play. I assume its ignition noise. I have what i bealive to be a inline noise filter sitting in a drawer at home.... when i open up the little square black box i see a transfomer.

Will putting this in my car help the wine.... What wire sould i run it "in line" with the red or yellow wire cd player wires. Also why am i getting this wine i never had it before and nothing on my car i have changed in the last while would be connected to me just now start getting a bad high pitch squeel.

that will help if it is a grounding problem, yes.. but not the right way to fix it.

do you get the noise when you are listening to the radio?

did you change anything that could have caused this?

were there any symptoms before this?

it could be a crossover u have at home which just limits the frequincies the speaker will use...u can make your own noise filters though or get one from radio shack i think all it is is a wire rapped many times around something possibly a magnet but ive never needed one so not positive...id say if it started from no where check your connections then double check them (rcas, speaker wire, ground, power...etc...) then check to make sure u havent rubbed the casing around the wires off anywhere.

a crossover is actually a combination of inductors and capacitors

capacitors limit the low frequencies--for tweeter use

inductors limit the high frequencies--for woofer use

for midrange, you use both at the same time...

yes you can easily make a crossover, but you need to do some math, and know some very specific information about your speakers... which is why not many do it, unless their pros...

yeah i know thats what a crossover is lol i didnt word that very well i meant to make your own noise filter....but if u wanna make your own crossovers its not hard there are schematics out there everywhere w/ all kinds of diff. inducers and compacitors to play w/.

It's not hard to make a ground-loop isolator, if that's what you mean by noise filter.

Essentially, it's just just a metal rod with two coils on it very close together. The first one has takes the RCA signal and converts it to magnetism, and the second coil recieves the magnetism and converts it back to electricity..

They aren't 100% efficient, and are viewed as more of a band-aid to fix a larger problem. All it does is make it so your headunit, and amplifier cannot ground themselves via the RCAs.

jcurrieirocz, What's the make and model of the HU? Which speakers are making the noise? Are they amped? Did you cut THAT noise filter off of the harness for the HU you are using?
