So..., my friend recently got an indash in his car and now i'm jealous. I currently have a cda-9847 alpine head unit, ipod interface, type-s 6x9 & 4x6, jl 500 watt amp and two 12 w3's in my car. I would like to have a tv, dvd, and mp3 player that still lets me use my ipod. I would like to know if it would be easier to buy another head unit or a seperate monitor. I would not mind mouting mine like jim did but i am not sure if i can even use my head unit with a monitor. Also, i have two vents in my dash so i'm not sure if i can mount mine there like jim did. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brandon

If you have the Ipod accessory, then your head unit has AUX inputs (you may have to buy an AUX input adapter).
I know Pioneer head units that are Ipod ready also have AUX inputs. You can connect your dvd unit to the AUX ins on the h.u.

Yes, it does have aux input. I wold hook this to the head unit right. Would i just insert the dvd's into my head unit or into the dvd unit? Also what would i do about the tuner? I am new to these things so bear with me.

Thanks

The TV hooks to the video-out on the DVD unit, and your Alpine AUX will hook up to the audio-outs of the DVD unit.

      DVD player
         /       \
    TV           ALPINE
                             \
                              Radio, CD, Ipod

Put DVDs in the DVD player, and switch the Alpine h.u. to the AUX input. DVD will be controlled by the DVD player, but the Alpine will play the sound over the speakers.
The Alpine will also remain responsible for Radio, CD, and Ipod.

okay, i already have my mp3, radio, and ipod through my stereo and that will stay and the dvd just hooks up so i don't have to worry about the fm modulator right. The tv tuner hooks up to the dvd player so that's set.

Basically, all i need is a dvd and tv tuner. Is there any special wiring that needs to be done or is it just straight forward like hooking up the stereo. I hooked up my amp and stereo myself so i have some basic wiring ability.

just so you know, there is no such thing as a GOOD ipod interface for car stereos yet...

they all have horrible limitations, with Alpine being among the worst...

best so far is Kenwoods.

now if you are just passing the audio through via RCAs then any headunit in the world will work fine and don't even bother with "ipod ready" units...

I'm hoping they will come out with 2nd gen interfaces this year...

I ALREADY have the interface. I was just making sure i can reuse my stereo. I think i am going to buy this dvd player and just hook up the audio out to the aux on my stereo and mount my dvd player like jim did. I will then buy a tv tuner at later time to get a good signal.

A game system wouold go to the audio inputs on the dvd palyer right? What about the power cord?

If you get the Alpine IVA-D300 that will REPLACE your CDA-9847. With the D300 there is NO reason to run two HUs. It is the radio, the CD/MP3 player, the DVD player, the monitor and audio control, it's all you need (plus the TV tuner you mentioned).

I really like the IVA-D300... except I'm weary of that PulseTouch... anyone have any hands-on experience with it? The idea is novel, but I have a feeling it will break... Either it will break, or it's just a gimmick, like their GlideTouch interface...

I hear there is NOTHING worse than using an Alpine deck with GlideTouch, and the ipod interface...

people have literally started killing themselves over how slow that crap is....

I'm a big fan of the 8600's/9600's interface... but I will sacrifice that for the new pioneers coming out in April (but I heard from an online retailer yesterday that they will technically get a few units in late february... so you have to be on the ball with these.... I'm going for the 980BT

really? I thought that didn't have radio controls. I was looking at them on the internet and they don't mention am/fm controls. Maybe they just didn't list them. I like my HU and would rather just buy a tv/dvd palyer that plugs in. I would also cost me less. Or should i just sell mine on ebay and buy the dva 300?

Thanks

The D300 don't have the pules touch, that's the D310. And yes, the D300 has a AM/FM tuner. Go to Alpine's web page and down load the owner's manual and READ IT BEFORE you buy, that's often vary helpful step in deciding what to get.
And on the pules touch, it's neat, but that's about it. (...touch me back, touch me back,... your money is on the dash...) Gimmick...

dude, make sure you get a factory warranty WHEREVER you buy from... I'd hate to hear you getting this off the net, only to have problems 6 months down the road... and be S.O.L.

Personally, I am avoiding in-dash DVD because I'd rather just have a touch-screen VGA monitor with a computer...

if my car had double din, I'd have a kickass 980bt, and one of those $250 motorized in-dash VGA touch screens... then a computer under the seat etc

but since I don't, I will have to get creative... I don't know where I am gonna put the touchscreen, but it's going to be pretty far in the future so I'm not too worried about it...

the in dash dvd will hit an automatic shifter in park, for sure... I don't know about standards though...

maybe you can mount the unit at some sort of upwards angle where you don't have to worry about all that...

I am really only worried about when it flips out. When it's out i really wasn't worried. This was why i wanted to do it like jim did.

uh, yeah, that's what I'm talking about...

when the screen extends, it comes straight out, and will hit your shift ****... unless, like I was saying, you make a custom mounting bracket that will let you angle the deck upwards or something... but even then, it's hard to say.
