Just wondering...

Hey
my bro bought a amp a while back before he had a car to put it in and then ended up buying a car with amps n subs already in it, i dont want his sub but think the amp wouldnt be a bad idea if i can hook it up with my speakers, im a lil tight on money right now so im not runnin out to get new speakers just yet so am i able to hook the "MTX audio Thunder 282 2-Channel power amplofier w/280W" to my stock 6x9s? and if i did would it sound any better?
thanks
braden.

You can but you really want to amp either both your 4x6's and 6x9's or neither. That way you're guaranteed a nice stage without the front or rear becoming too overpowering. You could always bridge the 4x6s/6x9s I guess but I'm not sure how much I approve of that either because of lost control.

As for amping anything (even stock speakers) vs running it off a deck, the amp will always sound better.

well, cause the person who owned the car before me had a full system and when she took it out she left all the wires, so im thinking just to yank them all and toss them... and im new to audio stuff, so when you mean bridge... what do you mean? lol
yeah i just thought of amping the 6x9's cause i thought itd be easy with it all being in the back but if i could get some more info id be glad to do it...
thanks

You can yank all the old wires and toss them if you want but as long as you still have black, yellow, and orange I would save those. You can use them to power your new deck.

Bridging means combing two or more things. You can bridge channels on an amp for more power and you can bridge speakers to a single channel on an amp. The latter, bridging speakers, isn’t used very often and I probably should have used a different term.

You're right that amping the 6x9s is going to be easier than amping whatever you have up front because you're going to have shorter runs of wire, but it will most likely throw off the balance of your sound stage - the rear will over power the front.

yeah but that doesnt seem like a bad idea, because 99% of the time in in my car the windows are down and usully t-tops off so all i hear is my 4x6's maybe if my back is a little stronger it might equal out? (in a weird way?)

It's your system - do whatever makes you happy. There's no harm in trying it, the worst thing that happens is that you waste a half hour of your time.
