guys nees your help on more bump in the convertible
ok right now i dont have any bump in the trunk but i wil lbe getting to that later. my first project in this 2 part project is to get better results out of the mids and highs. right now i have pioneer 6x9s um 3 way in the back where the 4x6's used to be on the 89 camaro convertible and i had to use a backing plastic peice to bring out the 6x9. i dont like the 6x9 anymore as it just dosent cut it for any type of bass. i would like to remove the plastic backing or at least trim it down so it dosent stick out so farbut not sure how a 6 1/2 would sound in its place. im thinking a good 4 channel amp will work for the mids and highs but not entirely sure how much. 100watts 200watts? for the second part of this project i would like to install 2 10's or 2 12's in the trunk of the car. Now when the top is down ,and this is pointed at anybody who has a convertible already, will i be able to hear the bass or will the top drown it out? just would like to know your ideas as i already have a 2 channel PPI amp power series but will need a 4 channel amp and i have 10's if you think that will work JL 10w3d4's to be exact. i listen to alot of rock and rap and punk. so i want it to sound good with or without the bass ya know for those times you need to turn off the amp while the cop rolls by lol..anyways lookin for ideas pics anything that will get a geear turning.

As far as subs go, I would put a band pass box with 2 10's. Get a 250+ watt rms per channel amp and that would pound pretty darn good. I don't roll in a convertable so I'm not sure about the trunk space. That's where the 2 10's instead of 12's come in. Save some space for you and that type of box will sound good with the type of music you listen to.

uhm... dont get a bandpass box.. premade ones are garbage and properly made ones are very hard to make.. either go sealed or ported.. im not sure but it may be a little different when the tops down but they should still bump.. if you want subs that sound good JL's are nice.. but there are better for the money imo.. jl's are very expensive and theres a lot of cheaper subs that are just as good

Well I can't help you to much with the mids and highs. I still rock with the stock dash 4x6 and nothing in the rear. lol. But I do have the subs. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/car-...-12s-vert.html. I built a custom sealed box and put two alpine type-e's and a alpine mrp-350 mono amp. It pushs about 750 watts. And it sure dose give it enough bump to shake the whole car. I listen to mostly Rock, Alternitive and Rap. And about the sound with the top down. I usely do about 80-90mph on the freeway and it still sounds good. You are going to have to crank it up though. And it won't sound as loud as if your stopped. But still sounds good. But if you have the money a would seriously look into getting a setup with some power. Otherwise your top down cruzing will suffer. I plan on stepping it up some more also. Now this all depends on how loud you listin to it. I like to set off car alrams and what not. So I listen to it LOUD. And you may not. so it just depends on how loud you want to go with the top down. If I had this in my IROC with the hatch it would be perfect. Because with the top up I've had to turn it down do to my ears ringing. lol. so in a coupe it would be great. Adam :-)

i beleive it puts more of a load on your alt. a high output alt. or even the big 3 will change things drastically with the charging system

hmm. what charlies sayin does make sense. but i have two type R alpine 12's that i had hooked up to a 1200 fosgate amp that i had and it dimmed my lights big time!. then when i put my cap on it stopped the dimming. i put a 19 volt cap on tho. i've had it on for about 2 years now.. even tho the name brands dont match they work pretty good together. i get a real nice back message
