Sub in the "glove box"

I've got a Pioneer head, 6x9's in the sail panels, 5x5's in the dash, and 5x5's in the door's. Everthing looks totally stock, so I'm looking to keep it that way. I'm thinking of glassing up the locking glove box the the hatch area to stiffen it up, and put a single 10" sub in there. Recommendations for/against?

Re: Sub in the "glove box"

to get the best performance out of a speaker the volume of the box needs to match the requirements for the speaker.
glove boxes are small and chances are won't give enough volume in the box to work with the lower frequencies and instead you are get more of peaky speaker that is tuned to a higher frequency

Re: Sub in the "glove box"

You have quite a bit of area in there, and even more on the side with the spare tire. You can build a pretty stealthy sealed enclosure for either side and get some very nice sound out of it. JL offers a stealth box for the 4th gen cars and if I do recall someone was making them for our 3rd gen's. I've personally listened to the W3 in a 4th gen Trans Am and it sounds killer, I say go for it. Most modern 10's will work in as little as .5 cubic feet of air space so you should be ok on that front.

Re: Sub in the "glove box"

i would say that your best bet is either an 8" Kicker L7 (they sound awesome) or if you are a little bit more crammed for space, check out the comp VT series. although they cannot handle alot of power, they have a VERY shallow mounting depth and small box size requirements.
