I dont know where to start!

I am a COMPLETE newbie when it comes to car audio! So far my 87 iroc has a pioneer headunit, pioneer 4x6 in the dash and kenwood 6x9s in the sail panels. I am looking for a good system i can put in my car. I want it to hidden so i was thinking about putting two tens in the storage areas in the hatch area(meaning one 10" sub in the spare tire area and another 10" sub in the storage area that can be locked). I know i would have to cut out the storage area container but thats not a problem. So what i need to know is what is a good system that will hit hard but be crisp? I need someone to explain everything to me...i know thats asking a lot but just please bare with me!

What's your budget?
Also a decent 4 channel for teh 4x6s and 6x9s is a good idea too.

Re: I dont know where to start!

Sounds like you already have a good start with the headunit and interior speakers. If your looking for a good all around setup and interior amp is a must your headunit is barely pushing any watts to your speakers so a amp would be a good idea. As for subs 10's are a good way to go (I wish I would have gone 10's but I couldnt pass up the deal I got on my 12's) as far as putting in then the storage compartments you need to do a lot of custom fab work to make it look and sound good. I went a different route (the more common one) and built a box for my 12's in the hatch. My rear window is tinted so it is well hidden

Re: I dont know where to start!

I don't want anything cheaply built...so if i need to save up money I will.
If I did get an amplifier for my speakers, could I find an amp that will both power my speakers and power 2 10 inch subs?
The reason I want to put my subs in the storage compartments is so that I have room in the hatch area to put things like fishing poles and other things i need to haul around. Does anyone have any pictures of sub woofers located in the storage compartments?

Re: I dont know where to start!

after looking at my car i decided i was just going to put two 10s in the deep part of the hatch area. It will take up about half of the depth.

Re: I dont know where to start!

If I could do my system over, I wish I had the 4th gen style side panel subs. I use my car as DD, and storage is just non existant. With the side panels you could retain some of the functionality of the trunk, not only that, but it would almost look stock and much cleaner than the standard well.

I mean if making them is the issue, you could just make them more block like (won't match the stock curves as well) to make it easier. I may look into this for a future upgrade.

Re: I dont know where to start!

hmm...i think id just go with some 10" Rockford Fosgates or if the budget is a little lower, go with some Kenwoods.

Re: I dont know where to start!

check it out to see how I put a 10" sub in the spare tire compartment:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/car-...-tire-sub.html

I found it best to have the sub face the outside, made for no plastic rattling, actually produced a crisper/deeper sound, and no one even sees it anyways.

Can easily be copied to do in the opposite side as well. It would be very easy to make a fiberglass enclosure in these areas as well....although they might be hard to ever remove due to the shape they would be sitting in....

Re: I dont know where to start!

Tg Goose i really like your setup...i think i saw your thread and thats what gave me the idea to put a sub in that area like you did. Did you just get a regular 10inch box and modify it until it fit in there nicely? Do you have it mounted or just sitting there?
