Rear speaker questions in 86 TA

Well my new TA didn't come with a head unit in it so I figured since I was going to buy a new radio I would get the speakers also. I was thinking I was going to go with 6X9's in the rear but when I took the cover off I found this (see picture). They are a 4X6 and a 5in. I really like the bass a 6X9 puts out though. What would I need to do to mount a 6X9 in there? Or should I stick with a 4X6 and 5in on each side? Also the dash speakers are 4x6 from the factory correct?

Can anybody tell me what this is? It was in a box of parts I got with the car. Is it a factory amp? It also has a switch on it.

i think you have the bose package. crutchfield sells the adapter to fit 6x9 in the rear. theyll give it to you when u buy speakers from them. your going to want to run new wire from your deck to the speaker since it was factory amplified. 16 gauge will do you shouldnt need more than a 50 foot roll( its 10 dollars at walmart)

Where can I get the mount for the 6X9 speakers since my car didn't come with 6X9's from the factory? I looked at crutchfield and didn't see a mount for 6X9. Maybe a junkyard?

did you imput your car model? itll basically replace the black plastic piece were you current speakers are mounted, with one that has a 6x9 hole( btw these do not come included with the speakers, they are a separate purchase, but crutchfield usually trows them in under a free install accessory.)

Re: Rear speaker questions in 86 TA

You'll have to take the black box the 2 little speakers are in out of the hole and the 4 mounting holes for 6x9's should be there if I'm remembering right. No adapter needed. Pull the top of the box out first, it goes down into the hole a few inches.

Re: Rear speaker questions in 86 TA

In my car,i bought 2 4x6 Alpine Type SRS-406's and they fit, then for the the sub i bought 6 1/4 inch Legacy subs and it sounds badass!
Yes it has a factory 300 W amp,the mostly go out. So youre lucky urs still works! The speaker box that holds your speakers are rare( I have it too=]) so keep that! Just do what i did. It sounds great now!
and yes the dash speakers are 4x6's,but theyre a pain in the *** to get to
so i wuld just leave it man
I got an 88 T/a And just got done with my system. All my wiring was disconnected so i had to rewire everything
