89 Stereo Questions

Hey all, I am broke right now, Im only 17 so I don't have money to throw around after buying my GTA. I am eventually going to put in an all alpine unit with 2 type R 12's a monoblock amp, 4 - 6" component type r's and a simple Head unit. I hate the new Alpine head units I really like the older ones like 6 years ago that had great tuneability and didn't have any ipod or usb or blutooth I would love ipod connectivity but hard copy cd's sound better to me. I was wondering if any one knew the best place to get the old head units and what a good amp was to run two type r's? also box in hatch or on top? anything I can do now to make my system better for like no money?

Where should I dynamat? How do I get the most and best sound out of my car. Oh I am the biggest Van Halen fan, so all that 80's music will be played, I also love heavier rock and metal like RATM and Pantera and Maiden but I love 90's rap like Pac and Big and I love country and some dubstep and house and techno so I pretty much need phenominal sounds in a wide variety of muci types and so fourth.

Any ideas or suggestions would be great! Oh and what should I upgrade or do I need to to run a bigger system?

Thanks

Chris

Re: 89 Stereo Questions

Okay, we'll start off with the dynamatting; I pretty much covered everything (and no that's not a joke). I covered the kick panels, doors, rear sail area, roof and floor to keep out unwanted road/environmental noise; I also coated the entire back hatch 'trunk' area for environmental and acoustical reasons.

I have an Alpine iDA-x300 digital media deck and I love it; I believe that the issue that you are running into is the actual bit rate of the digital files. You can notice (with a digital media deck) the differences in audio quality if you run stuff at 128, 192, 244 or 320 kbps (in mp3 format); but I'll try to stay out of the digital audio education since that can get kind of lengthy.

As for suggestions for locating older Alpine Decks, aside from Ebay and Amazon, I could only suggest visiting your local car stereo shop to see if they have any used decks.
