dash speaker components???

Ok, I wanna put either 5.25 or 6.5 component mid bass drivers in my dash and the tweeter in the A-pillar. Which would be easier? Probably the 5.25? I know the 6.5 would probably sound better. I don't wanna buy kick panels, i am half tempted to make my own door speaker pods, but I really don't want to tear up the interior. So what do you guys suggest? How deep of a speaker can you drop in the dash. I have read all you gotta do is "trim" where the 4x6 goes and its that simple. Is this true? I figure the 5.25 might mount more securely. Yes, I used the search function, but there are alot of posts with people responding on how they "doubt that would fit" , or " I don't know how you got that to fit, cause I couldn't". I just want to know for sure from people that have actually done it, before I start shopping. Thanks guys!!

Re: dash speaker components???

Nobody? I know some of you guys have components sets with the mid bass driver in the dash. Why doesn't anybody make 4x6 component sets, when GM put these speakers in the dash of about a million cars???

Hard to fir 5" or 6" speakers in the dash - not much space unless you gut it to fit.

I have a 4" component set with the woofers in the stock dash location with an adapter, tweeter is on the door by the power door switches.

yeah, I looked for 4" components. Not alot out there, ones I found were super expensive. maybe I'll go for a plate speaker like the infinity. Really want a set of 5.25's. Can't beat the sound of 2way components.

Re: dash speaker components???

If you have power windows and want to do some door mods, you can stick a speaker in the lower part of the doors, mount the tweeter wherever you like...

Problem with dash mounting is the fact that the speakers are sitting in a plate and don't have separate airspace, making them sound dull.

Re: dash speaker components???

I have mounted 6.5" woofers up there. It is not a matter of speaker diameter, but rather speaker depth and magnet diameter. IIRC I had a very minor amount of trimming to do on the back of the dash on the driver side. I used 2" top mount depth speakers, very slim. The speaker surrounds are close to the dash pad. There are several ways to isolate the front of the speaker from the back. I made a thick pad to squeeze between the woofer and the dash pad. Its not perfect, but restored a lot of mid bass. This setup sounds way better than any 4x6 setup I have heard. But its still not quite where I want it. I think the sound reflecting off the windshield isn't doing any favors.
