hello everyone, this is my problem

I have a 1982 camaro with an 84 lg4 cc 305 4v with 5 speed manual.
when I got the car it was not running so I changed the plugs (original plugs were gas soaked) replaced the cc quadrajet with a rebuilt cc replacement, changed the oil, installed a set of s.b. headers (02 sensor installed on driver side header) and had my muffler guy run a Y pipe setup with no cat. now this is the problem I recall the mixture control solenoid not making the distinct ticking sound which would tell me the ecm is not working. well as I thought when 2 weeks after I changed the plugs and after running extremely rich the engine would not turn on due to plugs being soaked. so I changed plugs again and walla engine starts. I try to ground a & b terminals on the ALDL and no responce from the check engine light, it just stays on wether grounded or not. before I decide to try and figure this out I would like some input on what to do, where to start and or what would be needed to just run a non cc edelbrock 600 cfm carb. which would be easier? thanks guys.

I'm no carb expert (seriously), but it looks like you're running WAY rich if your plugs are soaked after 2 weeks. Might want to look into the primaries to lean down the mix. OR, maybe you're not getting a hot enough spark to burn all that fuel. I'd imagine that a stock, GM HEI could do the job, unless your distributor cap/rotor are shot. Maybe static timing is off? I'd wait 'till someone else comes in and backs me up on some of this stuff, but I think I might've gotten the ball rolling on this. Since the problem occured after receiving a reman carb, I'd be leaning more towards the ignition system, but that doesn't mean the problem isn't with the carb.

Do you know how the carb remanufacturer jetted your carb?

That's a weird one. Yes, the MC solinoid should tick....

Sounds like either a wiring problem or your computer took a dump. I doubt it's running closed loop if it's running that rich.

Good luck with it!!

i thought the ticking caused by the mixture control solenoid was to prime something? can anyone tell me what the ticking means and why it goes off after 20-30 seconds?
