Now i'm frustrated.

This has got me puzzled. After putting on my rebuilt qjet, that i got from summit,I
did the necessary adjustments, and it was running great.I have'nt had it on the road yet,but i have a reasonable length driveway,so iv'e just been gunning it up and down the drive.Anyway,i did this over a few days, rechecking settings in between, and everything has stayed fine.Today i gave it a boot and it started blowing heaps of black smoke, rough idle and very rich, and has stayed like this.Is it possible that the float has become hung up,or a needle/seat problem?.I know
it sounds like a choke problem, but everything was ok before,i had it running for a hour at idle, before this happened, and all was normal.I ca'nt see a reason for it.
Any thoughts?.

Regards,
Alicat.

First, check the choke. That's a visual test.

If it's flooding, you'll probably see it running the engine with the air cleaner off.

Re: Now i'm frustrated.

Hi,Five seven,No, choke is ok,pulloff is working ok,idle still kicks down as normal. No flooding is visible with the air cleaner off.As i said everything seems as it should be except for this sudden curious problem.Rough idle and black smoke, but does'nt flood and die and i can rev it without it dying.I cant see why a sudden acceleration would cause this as it was running ok before.

Yes,it is.seem's normal. The only odd thing, that i noticed since the problem occurred,is that the choke/alternator light, does'nt come on every time when the ignition is in the run position, without starting. It will come on,then it wont,so it's not a blown globe, just that it's intermittent now whereas before it would come on each time as normal.I'm going out to have another look, under a bright light,to see if i can spot anything different

Re: Now i'm frustrated.

Okay, an update.I gave it a couple of hard revs, the first one caused it to hang up and rev to about 4000 rpm,the second seemed to bring things back to normal
So i still dont know why it happened, and whether it will happen again. Also,it seems to be running too rich, black sooty plugs, sooty tailpipes.i have'nt touched the rich and lean stop screws yet as i thought that holley would set things to factory specs, when they rebuild but maybe they do'nt.

Alicat.

Could the o2 sensor be the rich problem. What is the best way to test it to see if it's no good.
