Camshaft for Carbed L98

I am going to be buying a 1988 S10 Blazer this weekend. It has the L98 TPI and 700R4 swapped in out of an '85 Corvette. What is the max lift that I can run on stock heads without changing springs or rockers? For now I just want to swap out the cam to match the powerband of the carb and intake as opposed to the TPI setup.

Maybe get something with a sinister idle while I'm at it...

so 2000-6000 maybe?

You've got no guarantee the original springs are in place or how old they are (and how worn). Swapping new springs with a cam change is pretty standard for that reason.

Stock springs are useless. No sinister idle or 6,000 rpm with stock springs. You HAVE to change out the springs, that is not optional. Remove the rotators, if the vette heads use them. Those have to come out or you will run into lift problems very quickly. And the valve springs on the rotator side are shorties that won't work without a rotator, so then you need springs anyway.

THat said, with the proper $45 ebay valve springs and non rotator retainers, you can run up to 0.485" lift with stock heads without having to clearance anything. Although you should check before you do so! Each head will be slightly different due to how they are machined.
