I am about 13 months into my restoration of a 1984 Z28 with 305 and an Edelbrock 1406 carb. The previous owner did not have the cruise hooked up and I drive long distances and appreciate the cruise control. Any thoughts on what I should do? I previously purchased a new bracket to support the TV cable which evidently wasn't hooked up correctly.

You should have been able to use the stock cable housing bracket.

If you don't have one, you should be able to find one. I'll have one available in about a month.

I have the bracket and it fits fine, I am missing the post where the cruise cable hooks up to the actual carb linkage. The current post is just long enough for the throttle cable and there is not secondary post other than the TV cable connection.

I think this photo shows the lack of attachment point for the cable. The TV cable attachment is hidden behind the cruise cable.

Thnak you very much, I can fix that! It seems to fit better the way it is installed, does it make a difference which way it is installed?

You need the Edelbrock kit #1484 to hook up your cable to the carb. It costs about $20.
I have the 1406 carb on my 1985 305 and am going to get this kit soon so I can try to get my cruise working as well.

Thanks Aaron, I will get that since I am waiting for the return of my Livewire spark plug wires that are being worked at the manufaturer.

I am glad I provided you with a laugh but can you explain why it makes a difference. Assuming I have the plug wires in the proper firing sequence I can't see why it matters whether the distributor is in either orientation.

It does look kinda odd being 180* out. One good reason to have it on the passenger side is that most 4 barrel carbs have the vacuum ports on that side. Obviously you're using an Edelbrock and it appears to have them in the front (seen in the picture).

As far as I know it shouldn't matter as long as you did align the rotor and cap at TDC to be whatever you're calling #1 on the cap itself and did the correct firing order.

Course I could be wrong and I'm sure I'll hear all about it if I am.

It only matters if you can't properly set the timing or attach wires. You can put the distributor housing wherever you want as long as the spark gets to the proper cylinder at the proper time.
