Re: holley vs. edelbrock

I've ran both for years. Honestly, I've always thought they both have thier place.

On a strictly performance oriented viewpoint, a Holley or Demon DP comes out on top both on the strip and dyno over Edelbrock. It can be more fine- tuned than an Edelbrock - but I've always found them much more finicky. but that's what I've ran on my cars most in the past.

An Edelbrock design is less finicky, but just can't be fine tuned to the degree a Holley can - nor is it designed to be as performance oriented. BUT - for a DD type car, I've found them pretty darn reliable, and overall gas mileage is better. It's all in what you're looking for. - Just MO, I'm sure others have thier own...

Re: holley vs. edelbrock

I'm running Edelbrock, no complaints here at all with it. Like everything else, I think it boils down to opinions and personal preference. Why I have a Edelbrock? Because I bought the motor with it on there - no need to fix something that ain't broke (in my book).

Re: holley vs. edelbrock

I used a edelbrock for years on my 83 z28 but had one bad backfire through the carb and it was toast but they are easy to rebuild

What did your backfire do to it?

Re: holley vs. edelbrock

it blew out some seals and took out a valve in it but it was caused by my spark control not adjusting the timing for the nitrous but I still have the carb it was a performer 750. Though I prefer holley between those two but my favorite carb is a weber but thats apples and oranges.

Re: holley vs. edelbrock

yea I am 100% sure it is a edelbrock 1407 I know they don't have power valves but it destroyed something that looked like a valve. After the big backfire it would stall around corners or hard acceleration and flooded really bad.

Re: holley vs. edelbrock

I am and have run Holleys for years, currently I am using a 750HP on my 385, like it says above: Better performance and finer tuning capabilities. I have had the oppurtunity to install and setup a couple of Edelbrocks on customers cars. My overall opinion is it's a good carb easier to dial in, bettermileage and a good DD setup...Just my opinion!

Re: holley vs. edelbrock

im not too conserned on mileage honestly. i drive the car 2 miles a day to work round trip. i bought the car with a holley and it needed rebuilt so i got it done and tuned by a shop and my buddies are saying i should have ran edelbrock because of the power valve problem for my daily driver. they car has a 327 in it nothing special all stock and i run a 650 vacuum secondary holley on it.

Re: holley vs. edelbrock

If you're going to just bolt on and go, then either one is fine. If you're going to play with it, then use whichever one you understand best and are most comfortable tuning. For maximum performance, use a DP isntead of an Edelbrock.

Re: holley vs. edelbrock

edelbrock is good for everday use but holley is much better for performance. the only issue ive ever had with my edelbrock 650 though is the placement of fuel lines on the top. every Holley Ive ever had has been great. but as previously mentioned edelbrock is much easier to rebuild.
