1984 camaro Q-JET problems will not start!! HELP!
Hey guys im new to the forum i just recently picked up a 1984 camaro to turn into a summer time cruiser and racetrack machine, it will be ran at mosport, everything works the exterior lights all the interior lights and guages, we rebuild the carb cleaned, and it will not start only if we pour gas into the manifold, either the mixture screws are not set up right, we had a 1971 Q JET from an old blazer with none of the sensors and only the brake booster line and fuel inlet, and it fired right up it ran really rough, but atleast it started, and ran on its own, now im not having such luck, now with this fully rebuilt carb i cannot get the car to run?, any suggestions would be greatley apreshiated, i noticed that the Spark plugs are fouled could this be my problem?, or is it a timing problem? thanks

If you live in the US your car should be a computer controlled carb ( CCC) If you live in Canada most but not all were non CCC. Here is a link that will explain further https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/carb...emissions.html. That may solve your problem. The plugs are fouled because you are dumping fuel through the carb creating a "rich" condition. let me know if it is supposed to be CCC and then do a search on converting a CCC to non - CCC. There is a lot of info in here on that subject. You may be farther ahead to just go buy a CCC if warranted.

Im almost certain its a CCC because it has a O2 sensor on the exsaust manifold it also has a MAP senor. Electronic choke and all that stuff, but we still cant get it running properly it will idle but somebody needs to hold the choke closed if it opens the engine stalls, we've replaced the plugs and wires and we cleaned the carb it runs better, but were just having that one problem with fuel delivery, we've started the car so many times that the starter is on its last leg, its starting to smoke, im not sure if any of the information helps, but i would love to have the camaro idling properly before i put it in storage

The engine is a L69 5.0L H.O, ive been told that it needs a whole new carb but id like to use the carb i have if i can, it also needs a new thermostat, because the engine fan will not turn on and engine it self we come upto 140degrees, the temp dial's middle point is 105, so we shut it down when it gets to hot

Rebuilt qjet that will only run with the choke closed?
Check your fuel filter. I've had to pull the little spring loaded check valve out of one once because it restricted fuel flow.
I'd next check the float level.
Make sure the MCS clicks up and down by manually inserting a small rod into one of the holes adjacent to the IAB screw. You should be able to fell it click up and down and you can then verify 1/8" of travel.
The MCS should be clicking when the ignition is turned to 'run'. It will continue to click for about a minute if the engine is not started and should click continuously while the engine is running.
Idle mixture screws should be at four turns out on each if they were not reset to their original position after rebuild. Same for IAB.
Vacuum leak. Disconnect every line to the carb and manifold and plug the ports. If it runs better reconnect them one at a time til you find the culprit.
Inspect your carb base gasket and ensure it's sealing properly.
