Cheap mods to an LG4?
There is a camaro I'm interested in getting. What are some cheap basic mods to an LG4 I can do? Car seems original its a 5 speed not sure what gear it has. I was talking with someone and they said an exhaust from a TPI would help. Any other mods that are cheap?

Intake manifold, hedders, exhaust, better flowing air filter/intake. Everything plays off other parts...no one part is going to solve it for you.

This is what i did to wake up the original LG4 in my
'82 z28"back in the day"-early '90s
-headers,y-pipe,3"super single exhaust
-hotter cam-(LG4 cam super mild,used one close to
"L69"specs)
-rejetted the carb to compensate for the cam and
exhaust uprades
-air cleaner and hood modified for functional
air induction
-had to add electric fuel pump as original mechanical
pumps(tried replacements)would not keep the carb
bowl full.

Save up and build a mild 350 and just swap them.
The end of the day you will still have low output lg4.....and only 50hp more.
Mild 350 with vortec heads and lt4 hotcam will run great and cheap

My minor research and conclusions are.,
-exhaust/headers, not lg4 diameter, 3 in.
-hotter cam
-i am going to try electric fan
I am considering the 1st and 3rd one and build an engine.

What you want to do is eliminate all the restrictions on the exhaust, intake, and timing curve to get all the power back that GM intentionally choked out:
Headers, 3" cat, 3" cat back (if not headers then a 3" y-pipe)
L69 dual snorkel air cleaner assembly
Electric fans (if it has a clutch fan)
Underdrive pulleys
Edelbrock micro-plus (to give you the proper timing curve)
Edelbrock performer EGR intake manifold
Carb tuning to get a/f ratio correct
Headers, 3" cat, 3" cat back (if not headers then a 3" y-pipe)
L69 dual snorkel air cleaner assembly
Electric fans (if it has a clutch fan)
Underdrive pulleys
Edelbrock micro-plus (to give you the proper timing curve)
Edelbrock performer EGR intake manifold

You know what I would do, Stevie. TPI exhaust, N10 even better, HO air cleaner, bump the timing, re-jet the carb and drive the poop out of it!

Any more details on the edelbrock micro-plus (what does it do, what is it controling)
Also anyone source any cheap dual snorkel cleaners quick searches show $75-150

L69 exhaust manifolds, Y- and intermediate pipe--along with a high-flow cat
CK or DR secondary metering rods and B hanger
Air-valve tension tweak
Edelbrock intake
Summit cam
advanced timing
The car ran much better than its original 155 hp, but after swapping in a 350 HO Deluxe, I learned that the LG4 effort, while a valuable learning experience, was somewhat a waste of energy/money.

I found a replacement N10 exhaust on ebay some used SLP headers and I think I would like to build an 2OTL exhaust. Probably gonna end up costing what half the car costs. But it would be exactly what I want. Just gotta work on the wife a little bit more and Im gonna call the guy. If it was an LB9 5 speed I'd just ask for forgivness LOL.

I did an open element filter, Hooker Headers with cat-delete y-pipe, with a 3" Magnaflow exhaust. B&M Ripper shifter, and I really enjoy driving this car. Suspension mods made it a bit funner also. It's not super fast, but no slouch in my books.

I went from 155 hp, to around 200 (I'm guessing) to 330. I wasn't aware that the first two were slouches until the first time I put my foot in the 330--then the stupid grin didn't leave my face for a week. Just sayin'....

Edelbrock micro-plus was a piggyback computer made in the late 80's to early 90's to bump up the timing in the LG4 motors. GM used retarded timing on the LG4 cars to limit power output. I bought one new in 1989 and picked up 20hp nothing else changed. Probably a tough find now.

Been doing some research. This is what I came up with headers, full 3" exhaust, dual snorkle air cleaner, carb tuning and maybe a cam. I think that would put me where I wanna be. The car i'm looking at is an 86 so those mods should put me at about what a big cam LB9 is at. I would like for it to be in the 14's this will be more of a fun cruiser. If I do that stuff should I even bother messing with the computer??

If you are really wanting performance of any sort. Put a traditional Carb and an HEI mechanical advance distributor on. Ditch the computer entirely.

But if you were to go the route you are looking into, with the right tuning and gears, the car might dip into the high 14s without anything but replacing the stock restrictive parts.

In theory that makes sense, but as I have found out, most people do not have the patience to tune such a setup correctly and get all the performance an engine can give. Hence the multitude of 275hp, 14 second cars that might be putting out 375hp if everything was on the money.
