TBI with ECM or Carburetor
Hi
I have a TBI 305 engine. I wanting to do a build. Unfortunately I don't know enough about the TBI and the ECM.
What set up, carburetor or TBI with computer, will put out better numbers overall? Assuming I do intake, cam, and headers.
Basically, do I keep the computer and do the intake, cam, and headers with my current TBI or do I get a carburetor that has a higher CFM rating?
Thanks
Another option is get a 350. Do intake, cam, headers. Put it in my car, get a new chip for the ECM and anything else required for the swap THEN, put my old TBI unit on top? Will that put out good/respectable numbers? Will the TBI unit keep up? Or go Carburator with this option?

The best place to learn about the TBI & ECM is the TBI forum.
There isn't a carb system that would be legal in a '92 (unless you operated it off-road only).
There is a sticky in the top section of the TBI forum about a budget 350. It's a good place to start to understand what that route would require. It's almost always more cost effective to go with a 350 for the best power for the least $'s. Not to say no 305 upgrade is money down the drain - you'll just be spending more to get power over a certain point.

Re: TBI with ECM or Carburetor
the reason i posted this question here is to find out if a carburetor is the way to go? is it where i am going to get the most out of my build? i can go either way, i havent bought anything, i am still planning it out, (with my dad)
i dont have to get emission tested, i dont have a catalytic converter.
if thats what u mean by illegal?

Re: TBI with ECM or Carburetor
my biggest dilemma is:
do i go with the current 305 engine that is in my car now?
do i keep the computer or go carburetor?
i am having trouble making these decisions, otherwise doing the build and making the parts list is easy
