Spoiler woes

Hi guys,

Of course like every other 'vert my spoiler is ready to fall off, and I've read some previous posts about epoxies ect ect ect Anyway luckily my 89 has those L shaped brackets mounted on the decklid and spoiler (only thing keeping it on), but I can't get the the spoiler off because of those brackets, do I have to drill out the rivits to get the spolier off ?

And has anyone come up with a difinitive solution to getting those posts to stay ?

Thanks !

when I repainted my deck lid I drilled the rivets out and found out that they were the only thinks holding my spoiler on! I bought a 2 part plastic epoxy and glued them back on, only problem is... my spoiler sits higher on the outsides then it did before so not sure if there are center posts and outside posts! The rivets can be found at auto parts stores!

There's one on ebay now.. they work fine. If you look here you will see one. THe underside has to be really well reinforced to stop the things snapping off etc. GM Sports Salvage in San Jose has them also. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7929606471&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

When I pulled the one off my vert and sold it to raggy I use some epoxy to remount some bolts to use instead of the lug mounts. Keep the heights and angle of the stockers the same. With I would have taken pic's to save for others.

I have the same problem. I have been in touch via E-mail with Lon of TDS . He is working on a "fix kit" for this problem. I don't know when it will be ready. But he seems pretty sharp so I am going to wait. I have been the J-D weld route and it didn't work.

ASC Firebirds!

I hadn't posted in some time, but forgive my over-attendance as of late... just trying to get driving reinstated after my legal problems this year. I will be tackling $3000 or so in debt in the next six plus months and get out of the red!
I hope to see not everything too Camaro biased here. Granted more Camaros were made then Pontiac Birds, but the physical differences are such it's worthy of both's coverage.

My 1989 wing seemed unique but it appears 1987 to 1989 can share the same one, with slight differences.
Mine, the end pieces that almost appear cement like both fell out. Can anyone describe how these are attached, along with the wing itself?

I've been in the same situation with the spoiler on my convertible for several Months now. You can remove the spoiler from the "L-shaped" brackets by unscrewing the Phillips-head screw that attaches the spoiler to the bracket. Look at the ends of the spoiler with the trunk lid raised and you'll see the screws that you need to remove. The L-brackets will still be retained by the flat brackets as the spoiler slips free.

The aftermarket convertible spoiler brackets project is at the top of my "to-do" list. I've been delayed by several issues, the biggest was lack of tooling. After several unsuccessful attempts to buy a punch press on eBay I've finally acquired both a punch and shear. The shear will be here early next week. I need to mount both onto a rolling frame and have the punches and dies sharpened. So to borrow a phrase that was used recently "help is on the way".

I noticed the title obviously mispelled, can a mod fix that up, also
Lon, good to have you helping owners here.. Will you have pics of these replacements. I always love as much detail for the novice as possible. Work shops charge way too much for ongoing repair work, as the older cars seeing better days prior require

Where I'd go in for an est... The total tally would generally include, at that price point, it's at or more then the 'car is worth'. They don't typically encourage $1000 to $2000+ out of pocket expense on 80s or old cars in general
In all seriousness I am thinking of checking out Maaco for an actual est. from them. They get thumbs down everywhere I hear from owners, but each one is supposedly a private setup. Isn't it possible one might do good work as opposed to another?
A former work buddy had a guy doing bodywork freelance... I'd love that contact!!
