F-Body motorsports had a LS1 in a White Vert at one time.. seems it left with the old owners or they sold it.

Edit: found it

I'd have to say the LS1, anyone can mod a 5.7 TPI. Although the cost of the LS1 can climb VERY quickly, there is alway room for modifications. There's a huge aftermarket for LS1s and you can easily get it to have 4oohp.

Which ever one you want in there, do that. A LS1 pulls a good wow factor, but so does a polished up Stealth Ram. The LS1 has serious power under the curve, and a set of Head and Cams will put you in the 400 rwhp range. However, for the cost of the LS1, heads, cam, etc, you can probably build a very fast 350, 383, or 400.

i heavily disagree.

pick your aftermarket heads, build your budget shortblock, and swap your T56, and you've just blown your budget compared to buying a LS1/trans combo. you spend your next $300 on intake and fuel injection parts, and i'll toss a cam in the LS1 to make more power.
prices are low, getting lower, and they're making more power... the only way to make a SBC cheaper, is to have it make less power and do less then the LS1.

but thats off topic.

on topic, the question was, anyone do it?

yea, i have one, and i know of 3 other regular guys that have LS1 verts...

yep, seen that Fbody motorsports in person and it was one of the finest thirdgens i ever seen. completely done from ground up. car was clean!!

but LS1 parts are not cheap. more expensive than basic sbc parts

you can have a 500hp 383 for 5 grand. even abit more power if you use a different cam. all new parts or remanufactored parts. but hell i seen MANY budget 400+hp 350 builds. i'm talkin less than 3-4 grand.

not sure you could do that with a new Ls1 for that same price. but if you could, the ls1 would be more efficient and street friendly with its fuel injection

used LS1 is around 2-3 grand or so. with trans for higher mileage piece you can get them for 3-4. add exhaust... close to 800-1000 bucks there. add cam and new springs which will total upwards of 600 bucks or more, and then you coud make near 400whp. but hopefully the stock fuel pump can handle that. and you gotta get a tuner for 400-500 bucks. its not just a cam swap that needs to be done. you gotta replace everything from springs/pushrods to fuel pump and then add a tune.

so either way, the cost is closing in on the same price. and thats not even considering all the swap parts you need to get that ls1 in

i know this is a debate that goes nowhere.... also, its 4:59, so i get out of work in 30 seconds... so i'll compact it into one line:
i know what i say is true, because i have done, and am doing it.

i bet it can be done, just goin by the prices i'm gettin quoted from cuz its either LS1 or 383 for me, and for the most part, they prices are coming out the same for me. either 450hp 383 auto or stock 345hp LS1/T56. i'm leanign towards more power but i want the stick

One thing to consider is that the LS1 will make over 300hp stock, it will be lighter and it will deliver better fuel economy that a gen 1 or 2 SBC. High twenty MPG vs mid to high teens MPG is a good enough reason for an ls1 switch whe ngas prices are as high as they are.

lol, yea...
with the cam, in traffic... to and from work everyday... and the usual lunchtime traffic jam.... with me flooring it on the highway when i can.......... i get an avg of ~19mpg... and when im nice to it, it jumps up to the low 20s.. and on roadtrips.. low to mid 30s... kickass MPG...
