As I am sure most of you vert owner's know, they never made a model of any 3rd gen verts. I just finished a model of a 1992 Firebird vert for my buddy (92vert) and it came out pretty good. Looks a lot like his car, including the rims. He hasn't seen it yet, so we will see how long it takes him to see it on here.............hehe

yea, those are crappy pics and I will try to get some better ones. The model is made from a 92 GTA (like the red one) so the proportions are correct. The back ends proportions are slightly off due to the model atually being a t-top car, but in real life it looks identical to Jim's car. The angle and bad pic make it look funny.

There's a guy by the name of Al Avery who is making a custom diecast model of my convertible right now. He should be finished with it sometime this month actually.

Is that model plastic or diecast? It looks good.

They are plastic and so therefore had to be painted and put together. Thanks for the compliment. The pictures really don't do it justice. He (92vert) will flip when I give it to him, because it really does look like his car. (pic of his car on an earlier thread of cruise-in pics)

I think I've just been inspired! I picked up a non-GTA 'bird model, planning on filling the front fender vents. Now I wanna "convertable-ise" it!

Did you use another model, for the conversion parts, and molded them to fit?

The model was originally a 1992 GTA and I had to cut off the roof and t-tops, then modify the rear spoiler (as verts have a diff spoiler than the others), and yes, I had to use parts from other models, such as the tonneau for the top and do a few modifications to the model to make it all fit right. So far, I have done 3 92's; a formy, a vert, and also a base Bird (mine) which is pictured above. I have several others, including a 86 Z28 done in black/gold. It does take quite a bit of patience and stress, but I do it for fun and have done hundreds over the years. I will say this vert model was the hardest yet, but will be worth it when I give it to Jim. I see from his comment above that he has seen it and likes it so far.

Yeah, I have yet to use just 1 kit to build a model, since I was just a wee lad! LOL Lots of parts boxes now. I figured you might have used a 4th gen convertible, for some of the rear hatch parts.

Do you do them or sale? Or just for fun? You might find afew buyers. Maybe even doing just the budy for a kit, for people to finish the build?

I honestly just do them for fun and I have done a few personal ones for friends. It usually takes between 20-30 hours to complete one, with all the prep, paint, detail, etc. And that doesn't include the cost of the models, which for the rarer ones on ebay are up into $20-30 range now. So, it is not practical to sell them, as they would cost $60-$100 and they never seem to come out perfect. Sometimes the imperfections are only seen by me, for resell I wouldn't feel right about it. I might consider doing 1 or 2 for members of TGO, but it is getting hard to find any 3rd gen models at all anymore. I have a 92 Formula, and a 85 Camaro drag car unbuilt right now, but for example, it took me over 3 months on ebay to find the one I used for the vert.
