is $4995 to much for a 1989 RS vert? its been repainted blue, engine is orignal 90000 miles, no rust, black interior, just tuned up, new fule pump, after market CD player, 2 sets of wheels aftermarket and the stock ones, and new computer. he says he is breaking even what do you guys think

Re: is this to much for an 89 rs vert?

I think its in the ballpark. 90K is reasonable, the Repaint is kind of scarry, depends on how long ago, and what kind of paint, if its fresh then I would go over it hard. If its a V8 then that would help, a V6 I would think fiar price would be $1000 less...

If it was an IROC then definately a better buy BUT, all in all it sounds reasonable...

Edmunds: $1,059 $1,621 $2,583 (Yeah, try & find one for this much)
KBB: $4695
NADA: $2,925 $3,875* $4,575
* This Retail price is based on a clean vehicle history report. Don't make a $3,875 mistake. Get a Vehicle History Report today.
Vehix: $2,700 $3,875

Re: is this to much for an 89 rs vert?

its not a bad price, but you might be able to get one for cheaper and cars are never sought after as investments. Its always bogus when people say i put x amount into a car and expect to get that back. i think 4 is better and definitely less if it is a 6. also check underneath closely for rust.

Re: is this to much for an 89 rs vert?

wow thats cheap, For that car over here you would be looking at around $15,000 for a V6 and around $20<25,000 for a V8.

But that is after the $8<10,000 RHD conversion, So around $5,000 V6 and $15,000 V8.

My 84 Trans Am cost me $9,000AUD and it WAS not evan close to showroom condition. (HARDTOP)

Re: is this to much for an 89 rs vert?

Do you like the car? It looks like a great car in nice shape? Enjoy the vert, it can do nothing but go up. People are always looking for nice old verts. I picked this one up this past year for $7,000 - if that makes you feel any better. She was raised in Florida & is #286 of 744.
Screw the thought of the money. YOU BOUGHT IT - HAVE FUN DUDE!!

Re: is this to much for an 89 rs vert?

Really the typical 3rd gen hotspots are places to look.
Look for rust:
The Floor pans
The rear fender wells, both sides, make sure it has the highlight line, if not then its been filled in. Also check with your fingers (gently & carefully) on the inside of the rear wheel well lip for rust, there may be dirt up there so don't be fooled by bumps.

Also in the rear wheel well look at the sheet metal at the bottom, there are some misc pieces hanging down to look for jagged edges...

The rear storage compartment area bottom. The bottom of the doors, the strut towers, the rear hatch panel. Look down the sides, make sure its straight, if somoene put paint on it at least I hope they made it look good.

Make sure the doors close nicely and the hinges are not worn out, usually drivers side if anything.

Is the steering wheel straight?
Does it pull to the right or left when driving, keep in mind the crown of the road...

Good luck

John

Re: is this to much for an 89 rs vert?

sounds like a realy good price. im in canada, montreal and a vert could esily get 12 000$. My V6 RS not convertible, I paid 7000$ and compared to all the other ones I saw, it was a good price. sure I saw some for cheaper, but they were not to great...even if they had V8's.

Re: is this to much for an 89 rs vert?

I might actually sell my vert when i get it painted. If the paint is really good i might just have to keep it for a while longer so i can enjoy it after owning it for 3 years and never being able to enjoy it. I dont want to sell it but i dont have room for it where im going, i'm already taking too many cars with me.

I would take $3,500 for mine the way its sitting or prob closer to $5,000 after i get it painted. its a 1991 RS vert with a V8, glimpse of it over to the left, my avitar

Re: is this to much for an 89 rs vert?

as of right now the car is primered black, im planning on painting it back to the color in my avitar, the origonal medium Q. blue, ive replaced everything on the inside that was grey except for the seats, all black now with grey leather. Ive done all the work myself to the car, could be a real head turner as long as the paint comes out well. I'm moving in less than 4 weeks and may or may not take the car with me. im about 4 or so hours from where you live, i just bought a 96 SS vert from kettering just over a month ago. Lots of new parts, just dont have the time to finnish it before i leave. figured it would sell better if it was painted first. thats what caught my eye when i bought it. best color combo for a 3rd gen vert, blue with black top
