yet another convertible top toneau switch problem

ok so i have torn apart my interior trying to figure out why i cant use my switch to activate those release solenoids. I have 12v at the orange wire where the relay is under the window switches and 12v off of the brown wire but not to the black wire which goes back to the actuator under the automatic truck lid pull down lock. from there it goes to the solenoids and i have jumped back check continuity from solenoid back to that black wire where the relay is. it seems like the relay is not working but i bought a new one. does this indicate a problem with the switch then? i should be able to touch the yellow and black wires from the switch then and make it work right?

Re: yet another convertible top toneau switch problem

Did you check the switch that connects to the pull down motor..? It's a safety switch that prevents the center switch from working if the trunk is open. Mine cracked at the plastic piece of the pull down motor so I just rigged the switch to be closed at all times.. I'm smart enough not to have my trunk open if I want to put my top down... Stone

Re: yet another convertible top toneau switch problem

yea i even took it off and jumped the wires together. it seems to me that the relay isnt relaying when i click the button. but even if i remove the switch and just jump that with wire i dont get any volts out of the black wire that runs back to it.. where does the green and white wire goto. it seems to goto the front of the car somewhere. cant seem to figure that one out.

edit:
ok i can now get power to the solenoids by jumping the relay..which by the way what the hell is the relay for. i dont get it. if i send the 12 volts to the solenoids they still wont pop on their own? i can see them trying though..what am i doing wrong or do you think they are both bad. i can move them freely when no volts is to them.

edit v2:
so i figured out where that green/white wire goes...well in my non 5 speed car it went to the shifter switch which i assume made sure the car was in park before letting the volts go through or whatnot. now that i have a 5 speed it goes right to the clutch button by pedal. what do i do now?

My switch stopped working also. It went for awhile but had to open and shut the truck for it to work. I have no idea why that worked but now it does not work at all. If you can figure it out let me know.

Re: yet another convertible top toneau switch problem

your problem is your switch where the trunk is that is not activating correctly when the trunk is down. look under the left side of motor for trunk you will see a white switch.. that is not my problem though i think i have an idea

Re: yet another convertible top toneau switch problem

I will have to look deeper for the cause of mine. I see a type of switch (black) with two metal prongs sticking out the make contact with metal plates next to the pull down mechanism for the trunk. I will have to cross the wires to see if that works.

Re: yet another convertible top toneau switch problem

got mine working finally. here is what i did. first my car was an auto and i converted to a manual. so after looking at the haynes manual i had to look at the 92 section to find the top release switch wiring schematics and finally figured out to remove the green wire from the relay and replace it with the parking brake wire basically splicing that into the relay and bam works
