Check the 6 pin connector on the pass. side of the radiator. My fans did the same thing and my ground was bad at the connector. It is the weather-proof one. The ground on my car goes from the radiator support above the headlight to the connector. I dont know if your bird is the same as a Camaro when it comes to wiring, but it is worth a shot.

On the TBI models the ECM is not used for fan control, only a switch. "T" is correct, check to see which sensor you replaced. If the one you replaced has 2 wires it is the wrong one. That is the CTS that feeds the ECM. The fan switch is located on the pass side of the block between cyls 6-8. It has a single black wire going to it. Do you have AC? If so you can turn on AC and fan should run. It may be as simple as the wire going to the fan switch came off or is burnt.

I changed the sensor at the front of the motor. The parts store told me thats the only temp sensor on the car. Danno, is that switch above the starter??? When I was changing the starter this past weekend (2nd time in 2 years) I saw a single wire coming out of the block. Is it just called a fan switch???

You changed the coolant temp sensor unfortunately. The gizmo you saw is either the anti-knock sensor or the fan switch. The fan switch is a small brass unit with a single wire. The knock sensor is also a single wire unit but it is larger. Remember the fan switch sits in the water jacket so you will have to drain coolant to change it. Before you change it, once you are sure you have the correct one turn on key and simply touch the wire to a good ground. The fan should come on. If it doesn't, don't waste time changing it as it is not the problem.

Drained the rad, took the switch of expecting a little coolant, got a shower, but finaly got the SOB to work. Thanks for your help.

OK, based on your screen-name I am assuming it's an 89. 89 models with a 305 TBI did not use ECM for fan control so nothing should have changed. The fan sensor is on the passenger side of the block and has a single wire. It is a small brass fitting. That controls the fan relay. The single wire plugs into the fitting. If you take the wire off simply touch it to a good ground with the key on(engine can be off) and the fan should turn on. The fan circuit should NOT be on the same line as the interior lighting unless it was changed by someone. Stock fan turn on is around 230 degrees, you can get a lower switch from NAPA that will kick on around 215 or so, it's up to you. By the way, does the Jughandle Inn still have the best hot wings? Spent a lot of time there when I was with RCA.

SAME PROBLEM WITH MINE

Alright my 1992 305TBI is doing the same thing. THe fan comes on only when i turn the AC on. IT was working just fine, it just did this today for the first time. I even tried using the Digonstic mode(paper clip in the ternminal) to see if the fan came on it didnt. So im trying to change the part you all listed between the 8 and 6 cy. Only the dang thing wont come out. I got the right tools cant get it loose so im working on that part. Also Autozone sold me a part that isnt the right one. They are telling me that the thing im changing a coolant temp sensor, so thats what they gave meonly its not the right connection peice so i know its not it. I have the part number for the thing i do need though so im gonna go back with it and get the right part hopefully. Any more information you could all pass along id be greatly apprciated. If the Dipstick wasnt in the way no problem but it is, any ideas thanks guys.

According to my diagrams only tuned port models will activate the fan with the ALDL connector jumped. Before you change it just ground the wire to a good frame ground with the key on, engine off. If the fan comes on everything else is OK. Don't overlook a funky fan relay, GM had ton's of problems with them. many times part guy's confuse the coolant temp sensor with a fan switch. CTS has 2 wires, fan switch 1. It is best to work on it from the bottom if you can.

Does your handle indicate your drive? If so none of this applies.
