i drained and flushed my coolant about a month ago. and the day after i did it i looked in my resivoir bottle and it was brown again. so today i drained all my coolant, flushed the rad. till water was clear, put the lower hose back on filled it with water and ran the engine for a few minutes. then drained the water i had put in there. i repeated that process 3 times and on the 4th time i actually used prestone coolant flush stuff. every time after i run the engine it spits all the dirt that was in the block,heads,pump back into the rad. after i flushed it that many times i'd think that it'd be clean by now. but it's still muddy after running. BTW after i flushed with the special stuff on the 4th time i filled it up with 50/50 (not just water) in case anybody was thinking that. what can i do about all this dirt? rather than just repeating this flushing process that i've been doing. it's not rust either. it's that texas red-clay dirt chit.

Are you BackFlushing the cooling system using either the Prestone or Zerex Backflush Kit? BackFlushing the cooling system does a more efficient job of cleaning the cooling system than just filling and draining the Radiator.

what is backflushing?

Backflushing is when you hook up an adapter fitting (from the backflush kit) to one of the heater hoses coming from the intake manifold so you can connect a garden hose to flush the cooling system more thoroughly from the engine side. Just go to any auto parts store and get either the Prestone or Zerex Backflush kit and follow the instructions.

If it's any conselation my Trans Am had been doing the same thing for years. It may help if you use distilled water instead of tap water. Tap water in many places seems to have to much dirt and minerals in it. It could also be a slight amount of oil getting into the cooling system. Either from a small crack in the head or a slightly blown head gasket. It probably is just the water your using.

Build up of crap in the cooling system. Everytime you exchange the coolant, the fresh coolant breaks loose more stuff. Keep flushing it, and you might try some chemical cleaner(like super flush). After I bought mine it took many flushes to get it clean--using an air pressure/garden hose flushing system. I've used distilled water and tap water without any noticeable differences--as long as you flush it when you should, you'll be ok. When you get it good and clean, toss in some Red Line water wetter, cool stuff.
