Aftermarket coolant temp gauge help.

Alright so I got a mechanical temp gauge and I can't seem to find a place to screw the end of the capillary tube into the engine. By the way this is with the 2.8 V6, as I've found plenty of threads that deal with the V8s on this subject. Basically the only place i can find is on the front of the intake near the thermostat, but there is already some kind of sensor with a yellow and black wire coming out of it. I assume there has to be another place I can screw this thing in, right? And what exactly does that sensor do? Because if all it does is control when the fans come on then that doesn't affect me since mine runs off of a toggle switch anyways.

Thanks in advance guys!

Re: Aftermarket coolant temp gauge help.

That wire is for a sensor that should run the temp gauge itself if i am correct!

You're probably right, but I want to run this gauge mechanically not electrically.

Re: Aftermarket coolant temp gauge help.

I have a 87 2.8... I have a hole in the torque converter housing between the trans pan and the oil pan. Coolant leaks right out of it. I thought it was a sensor but after hours of searching... I think it was a aftermarket coolant temp gauge or I have a 3.1/3.4. I can tell it's had a engine swap. It might be what your looking for. It's raining or I would show you a pic.

Re: Aftermarket coolant temp gauge help.

The sensor with the black and yellow wire needs to stay, computer needs the input.

Not too familiar with the V6, but in your case you can use the fan switch or the original guage sender, I don't know where they are located.
