Need some AC help

Ok it's a 86 Camaro. I replaced all the lines, evaporater, condenser, Accumulater and the compressor from a 87. It has 4th gen fans on it. So I charged the system to proper specs all preasures were perfect and it was working like it should but the air was not near as cold as I thought it should be. I have been reading that I should have put a blue orifice tube in it since it's 134A instead of 12 but I didn't know that and the one I bought from the parts store was white. Since I have to take it apart to change orifice tubes is there anything else I should do?

I forgot to mention the accumulator, evaporater and orifice tube are new.

Re: Need some AC help

Did you replace the heater diverter valve in the cooling line under the hood? The heater is always on and the diverter makes it a little less on when the AC is on. The cooling control moves some vanes around to let less air flow through the heater core for more cooling. Possibly, your vacuum is not working or some of the vacuum motors are not moving the vanes in the air flow system.

Re: Need some AC help

My 86 didn't have that inverter on it when I got the car. That is something I will have to look into! I appreciate it.

I watched all the doors and they were closing good. Like from cold to hot. Or defrost to vents and so on.

Just out of curiosity what makes the inverter move? Is it suppose to hook to you're hot and cold door or what?

Re: Need some AC help

when u say not as cold as it should be, what was the temp and was that with the car sitting still? My experience is that converted third gens to 134a work just ok not great lol. If your getting below 60 sitting still that's probably about right. Mine blows pretty cold when moving or going down the highway but sitting still it struggles. I did use the blue ford tube. I think it helps just alittle but still that's not sitting in traffic. I just changed my temp switch to come on so my second fan cuts on at 195 that also helped alittle. I think yours being an 86 only had a single fan setup. There just isn't enough air flow with these cars

Re: Need some AC help

The diverter is on 87 and up not 86.

It was sitting still and the outside temp was 81 degrees and the air coming out of the vents was 59. And I put the system on a vacuum for 3 hours so I know that was good. And I feeled to specs. I used a white orifice tube since that is what auto zone pulled up. I should have checked that I guess. You are right the 86 was a 1 fan but I put a different motor in it and 4th gen fans. And I have them wired up to cut both fans on when the AC is turned on. I don't think the fans are the problem. But maybe it's still not enough. I'm pulling the orifice tube out. And have 3 options should I use the Red orifice tube or blue? If blue what car do I look that up under? Or should I use a adjustable orifice tube?

Re: Need some AC help

honestly that sounds about right sitting on a hot engine ac running could be alittle lower, but the tube out of like a 95 tbird will work just fine, the red is for hotter conditions I believe I have never used it, never heard of a adjustable one hmmm, I think once you do that and check it while moving it will be a lot better
