Coolant isn’t filling up properly
I bought a new overflow tank and thermostat housing. I flushed my entire system and after I put everything back and started adding coolant, it only took like 1 1/2 gallons of coolant. It’s filled up to the brim on the radiator.
I’ve bled the system of air (drove it around/ let it run) and it didn’t overheat, but it’s just kinda bugging me.
I’ve put an aftermarket radiator in there if that’s possibly why but I would imagine it wouldn’t change the capacity that much...
Is there something clogged somewhere possibly or is that actually how much coolant these things take?

89 Camaro 305 TBI w/ AC

If you didn't pull the two plugs in the block to drain the cooling jackets, the system was only about 1/2 empty. Let it go through a cooling cycle or two, if it doesn't burp it should be full. Be sure to check your coolant with a hydrometer to be sure there's enough antifreeze in your mix.

Each side of the block, center, just above the oil pan rails.
They might come out easy, or be nearly impossible to get out.
Remember, they have been in there for 31 years.
One plug will probably be your knock sensor (driver's side).
The other plug is hidden by the starter (pass side).

One will be a pipe plug, the other will be plugged with the knock sensor. Being pipe thread, they seal by wedging the threads together. 50% of the time if when you've got an engine out of the car, they don't want to come out without help. You'll probably destroy the knock sensor trying to remove it. Either have a new one ready to go back in, or leave it alone. If you remove the knock sensor, be sure to torque it to spec or it can cause problems.
