Got the car running!!! MegaSquirt users in here!
So i got her running last night!
First time using a MS. look below for the mods.
Anyways the timing was a lil advanced a guess and she kicked back on the starter and broke it hahah... will be the 64909 time...
anyways she barely holds and idle ( i think loadin up on fuel, if i hold around 1500 -2000rpm she will run decent and then wanna die out so i have to pedal)
The afr's are kinda rich for idle too about 11-13:1 and sometimes 9:1 and she stinks lol... needa do some tuning... but where to start? i been reading so much my head is doin circles!
The throttle response is so crisp and throaty tho... mmm mmm good.
I reflashed the MS to the MSII extra firmware. I cant wait to stand her on the two step!

Congrats buddy!
The megamanual has a pretty good guide to tuning. You have a wideband so that really really simplifies the process.
You should probabaly talk to jim... He's a wiz at tuning and he can probably give you an AFR table for autotune that will get you pretty damn close to where you need to be.

The harness i have has a shielded IGN wire and at first she wouldnt start so i was like waiiit how did i wire that lol...
I need to get the starter fixed but yea im excited as hell to get her on the go.
Whats jim's username? so i can message him, i find it funny with as many ppl there are with a megasquirt finding written info is easy but an actual person to explain things is a bit more difficult.
Specifically the spare port settings and a few other what-nots that i wanna play with after she's running straight.
It's unfortunate that my hands aren't true enough and my soldering skills suck, i woulda loved to build the board. ( may try it on another ). for what ever reason since i was younger my hands shake like no ones business... model buildin, etc is hard lol

awesome man, how did you work out your idling issue? Im still scratchin my head over why I have 0 throttle response. You have a WB 02 correct? have you tried the autotune feature, or can you not get a reliable tune to at least drive it around?
EDIT: Just for S&G, how are yall firing your injectors, alternating or sequential? And how many squirts? Just curious if the TPI works best with one or the other

Re: Got the car running!!! MegaSquirt users in here!
I forget the number of squirts off the top of my head.
Spills, throttle response once you have a good cruising tune is all about acceleration enrichment. Take a serious look at that, and all the tip in problems will dissapear
edit... Seeing how i've been through this all before (only minus the wideband)
If you have ANY questions I'll do my best to help you guys out.
For the hot start problem, play around with cranking pulsewidths vs coolant temp and also the after start enrichment. (this is assuming that warm up enrichment is already finished.)
edit #2-
Mine is bank fire, alternating. It runs really well in this configuration. You would think the car has a stock computer with the way it runs.

Re: Got the car running!!! MegaSquirt users in here!
ya, i think I may have put in the wrong amount for req_fuel. It feels like a cold carb'd motor with no choke. It may even be an IAC issue, or VE tables calibrated incorrectly. Soon as I get my WB O2 installed, Ill gonna dive into it

Yes, the wideband will let you know right away where you stand. I had an advantage with a mostly stock motor, I was able to draw on the stock VE tables for a lot of inspiration.

i have the base timing dead on and have the FIdle set up to ground a relay after 300rpms is seen to trigger ECU advance.
still dies if i give any sort of throttle input lol...

the req fuel for my set is like 19.2 upper and 9.6 lower box.. i dont know if thats too high... right now she idles at 5mSec
as for the HOT start issue i've been adding alot of fuel to the ASE and WUE tables and it seems to help ( it starts in the first few cranks, catches and then almost immediately dies..)
Also spills double and triple check the VE tables... i have noticed a couple of times that they get all messy for what-ever reason ( i mean the RPM bins end up jumbled so that its like 500, 2000, 1500, 4000 etc and that the VE numbers are all haywire)

Bob, you're using fidle output to control the timing relay?
I just did the same thing with a hot in run and not in crank power source. Lets me use the fidle to control the electric fan instead

Re: Got the car running!!! MegaSquirt users in here!
I was half inclined to use the starter signal to supply 12v during cranking but decided against going that route because i would need it to ground afterwards, does the starter signal do this? ( second thought if i wire it up like i think it will keep the starter on all the time... and that wouldnt be good)
UPDATE: I got her running and idling better now. Seems that i forgot about the pump i had on the frame from my carb days.... lol a bit of restriction... Tried to cruise around my block and all was going well untill the WUE shut off and the car died... ended up pushin her back to my house.
This would lead me to believe the base VE table is too lean?

Re: Got the car running!!! MegaSquirt users in here!
Try and get a datalog and check to see of your AFR jumps once WUE turns off. Have you let the car get to oper. temp just sitting in the driveway w/o driving? See if shuts off then, and if it does you dont have to push her back home

Re: Got the car running!!! MegaSquirt users in here!
making me mad as hell. The AFR's are fat 11:1 or 12:1 untill it dies where its instantly 21:1
Im not sure whats happening but it seems to have something to do with being at 185* degrees or more.
for all i know my MSQ is way off....

Yea, I am currently diagnosing it.... this sucks... it seems to idle forever.. but wont rev past about 2k or 3k once up to temp and then dies and wont restart.....

i had a similar issue. i could drive teh car around and all but after 15 minutes or so of driving it would shut off. i could however get it started right back up.
My problem was that something in the ms(wasnt getting a proper reading)was not fully functional and it was killing the motor. never found out what it was.

Lame....
Do any of the readouts except AFR change? Do the commanded pulsewidths stay the same?
If they do, and it is most likely something in the injector control circuit. Maybe one of the FET's is not within spec. The guys at DIY autotune can sell you new parts and are damn good troubleshooters
