mass air flow sensor

hey everyone ,man i have a very big problem here and came to the best place to get help . well lets get started i have a 1986 chevy camaro (berlinetta),last summer i started haveing problems with the mass air flow sensor it set a hard code in the computer so i went to advance auto and got a new one and they reset the computer took off down the road about a 2 miles the light comes back on again went back the chacked it again guess what,mass air flow sensor tried it 3 more times still same thing so got my money back went to dealership ,got new sensor from them and they cleared the code drove down the road 6miles light comes back on again guess what rt,mass air flow sensor so i kept that new sensor went to napa auto parts and got a new computer hopeing that would take care of the problem but it did not fix it ,so to me it has to be in the wiring but i dont know where to start ,and thats where i need everybodies help

It may be the MAF power relay is bad. In some years that relay is activated by the fuel pump relay, which could also be bad.

thanks for your reply rbob,now where is the maf power relay on the carv ,and is the other one in the gas tank with the fuel pump ,is there any books that will show you where they are thanks for the info i been haveing problems with mass air flow sensor for years the car has been parked for 2.5 years because of this problem

Your relays are next to your master cylinder on the lh side bulkhead.

hey RBOB and tuned performance, i checked at the advance store and i'am asking if they are rt does this year (86 camaro) has 3 sensors relays 1. maf power relay, 2. maf fuel pump relay , 3. the 3rd one i dont know the name of it but its location is mounted somewhere around the radiator can anyone confrim if that true

con someone please post a picture of the locations of where all the mass air flow senors are so i can replace all to see if it fixes the problem ,please i need this help thank you

The relay near the radiator is likely for the cooling fan. As for the fuel pump & MAF power relays, they are over by the brake booster on the firewall. Which is which I can not say.

so rob ,all i think there are 3 on the fire wall rt next to each other but you dont know which are which ,but are you sure all of them has something to do with the mass air flow

Generally, the relays are: cooling fan, A/C compressor clutch, fuel pump, MAF power, MAF burnoff. If dual cooling fans then there will be another relay for the second fan.

This may help, here are some wire colors (don't know if they are correct):

MAF power relay has: tan/wht, orn, dk blu, red, blk/wht

MAF burnoff relay has: orn (2), dk blu, blk

thanks RBob ,is there any way to find a picture of them on the fire wall ,because there are 3 relays that are bolted rt next together on the fir wall ,and if all 3 has something to do with the mass air flow i will replace all but i just dont want to replace something that dont need to be replaced ,but i have had this problem for so long its driveing me crazy,just want to make sure i am doing the rt thing

your best bet is to buy a factory service manual for your car.in it, you will find all the answers to your questions AND may even be able to fix it yourself.
