Banging on block with wrench... trigger knock sensor?

Guys, I was messing around with a scan tool today (Diacom) and wanted to test the knock sensor. With the engine off and the key in the on position, would tapping the block register knock on the scanner?? Anyone have any experience with this? Also the scanner was linked at the time, this was verified by pressing the gas pedal and watching TPS voltage.
The car is an '89 TPI.

Probably not. Start the engine and hold it at ~ 1200RPM, then wack the block. Should also be at operating temperature.
