749 swap issue

originally a 165, now been running with a 730 code and computer. Tried to swap to the 749 code but car won't stay running.

Basically I know the re-pin went right b/c I swapped back to the 730 and it fired right up.

I think it's just a bin file issue. Trying to run with the 749 code, the car will fire once then die and can do this repeatedly. CEL light is continuously on and so are the fans. Can't communicate with the ECM to get codes, but can view some data, that says "ERR" under the codes present section. Using an actron scantool for the "4.3 turbo" engine and "4x4 T-series" truck.

Could this be a VATS issue? The car is a '89 GTA.

Good thing the swap back to 730 is a simple 5 min task. This is the only thing keeping me for putting a belt on my D1-sc and 3 core.

I don;t know if this helps any, but I know that my ses light and fans are on when I don't have any prom inserted into the ECM and I turn the key on.

I still have the 165 ECM and am running the $6E arap bin though, not the newer map style.

The $58 code doesn't support VATS so if that is what you are running then not a problem.

Sounds like to me that the ECM is in limp mode running off of the RFD. Did you setup the cylinder slecet properly along with getting the proper MEMCAL?

Yeah I set the cylinder value to 0 in TunerPro. I thinking it's something to do with stacking the bin files or something along those lines.

The MEMCAL is the same one I use with the 730 code, purchased brand new from GM for SD 350 car. I'm also using moates adapter so that MEMCAL and chip haven't been touched.

Need to double up the bin (add two together: copy /b file.bin + file.bin newfile.bin) or start programming at $4000. The $58 mask is half the size of the $8D mask.

is $4000 the same location as 04000 in pocket programmer 2?

Also how does that "copy /b file.bin + file.bin newfile.bin" work in TunerPro.

I set the file size to 16 kb total chip size to 32 kb and then click "stack" and it creates a bin file. This is how I used to do it with a 746 computer except for 4kb size and 8 files which worked fine.

I'll try the single 16 kb bin and $4000 start location and see if that works.
Thanks

My understanding is that the "stack" command in tunerPRO does the same thing.

The string he posted is a DOS command that will also double the size of the bin.

VSS signal

I'm getting a VSS code, this is an '89 car, which has a factory electric speedo. I know I had to splice some wires and run them to pins for the 165 to 730 swap.

Do I have to change something in the bin file to correct for this on the 730-749 swap?

Try checking the magnetic speed sensor in the switch table.
