305-730 memcal for 350
I've searched.... and I can't find the answer. Same old story, I'm swapping a 350 into my 92 and want to know if the memcal is different between the 305 and 350. I guess part of the esc is in the memcal itself? I will be running a 350 knock sensor, S-AUJP and LS1 injectors ( is the concensus on these 28 lbs. per hr.?). This will be my first experience with editing/burning/scanning and I'm trying to minimize my lessons learned the hard way.

Because you said you would be running S-AUJP, I assume you will be burning your own chip (prom).
This means using an adaptor such as Craig Moate's adaptor that lets your use your original memcal and a new prom
OR un-soldering your prom from the memcal and replacing with a ZIF socket to allow easy prom changing.
If so, all the parameters such as engine size, injector size, etc., will be changed in your new chip (prom).
If all goes well with no problems, OK. The big drawback in using the 305 memcal is if something goes wrong and the ecm drops into 'limp-home' mode (this is not changable - it's on the other end of the memcal from the prom (chip). That's why Craig's adaptor connects to that end of the original memcal while using a ZIF socket for easy prom changes. Then the memcal is using the 'limp-home' setting for a 305 (engine size, fueling, etc).
The other alternative is un-soldering the prom from the memcal and soldering a ZIF in it's place to allow easy prom changing. Same situation - the limp-home end of the memcal is still for a 305.
This might not even keep your engine running, depending on modifications.
The 'limp-home' parameters will never match a highly modified engine, but using a factory memcal as close to your engine as possible will surely help in getting you home when the inevitable worse circumstances happen.

A new 350 memcal can be had at www.gmpartsdirect.com for $40 something dollars. Of course, their shipping and 'handling' will probably bring it to around $60 something dollars.

I know it's a little OT, but I can't remember, would a V6 memcal work as long as I was burning a new chip?

Hmm, I will be burning chips...... but I am unclear on whether the esc part in the memcal is different from the 305 - 350. I know the knock sensors are, but what about the esc part in the memcal?

Hey Rbob, would i be ok running my 350 on a 305 prom for a week? I am getting a custom burn done and the guy says he needs to be able to read my original. So, i will have to mail it to him.

I noted that your mini-sig states 'Vette transplant for the engine. Starting in '88 (?) they used aluminum heads on the y-body L98's. So the spark advance tables are completely different then the iron headed f-body L98s. May be better off starting with a y-body calibration.
Also, DIY tuning always ends up better then having a mail order tune done...

Well its sort of a mail order tune, except i am sending in my own datalogs. The guy has a good reputation for chip burning. Also the 305 memcal is for a stick and my car is an auto. Just need it to run decent for a week.

lack of TCC lock will generally heat up the trans fluid more, but lockup converters didn't even come around until the 80s IIRC. transmissions before then still lasted for quite some time, but if it's only for a relatively short amount of time, it will be fine.
