7730 $58 and manual tranny: shift light?

7730 $58 and manual tranny: shift light?

I just thought it would be cool to get the dash shift light to work with the $58bin now that I have a T5. search turned up nothing.

Car originally had a 305 TBI w/auto...
Then a TPI 355 (Holley Commander 950) w/auto
now a 7730 ecu/harness with $58bin and a T5.

(harness and ecu are from 91 z28 350 w/auto)

The .xdf I'm using for the $58 in TunerPro doesn't have tables/constants for shift light logic. Is there an editor or .xdf that includes the shift light logic.

I checked the flag for manual transmission, but i'm petty sure the shift light is set not to come on untill 6375 rpm. I don't think there were any syty's with manual trannies from the factory.

Get this .bin editor for $58 http://home.swbell.net/loeryder/prom.html It will allow you to change the shift light parameters to get it working. The turbo sunbird and turbo grand am used the same $58 code with a 4cyl and a 5 speed manual, but they didn't use this feature either. A little playing around will get it working though.

Which pin on the ECM are you using for the shift light? I didn't see a pin for it on any of the schematics.
From a low level code point of view. The BBZB $58 differs from the $8F code. Maybe they work the same from a high level. Side by side they look different in a few places.

Which pin? thats a good question. I haven't actually hooked up the battery since swaping in the 7730 harness. I don't even know if the shift light will work. I was just hoping if I enabled it in the bin, i'd be one step closer to getting it to work.

The shift light shares the TCC pin (F4). As long as your shift light is wired like the TCC where the ECM is pulling the output "low", you should be fine.

I just started taking a look at the $8F code as compared to the $58, too. I did notice the wastegate control between $58 and $8F are *identical*. Haven't checked the TCC/shift light logic, though.

1981TTA is correct the pin used for the lockup converter is used as the shift light when MT is enabled.

thanks a lot! thats good to know. Now, in theory, the shift light should work properly when I get everything together. School has really been cramping my "car working on" time. When I finnally try it out i'll post back to say how its working. I adjusted the N/V ratio for my trany and gears. I added the N/V ratio calculator to my ever growing excel sheet:

Since I have an engine harness from a 91 TransAm TPI 350 automatic, I don't think the wire exists that goes to the dash shift light. Even if it does, I may end up hooking some other kind of light to pin F4. Does anyone know the current limit on this pin? I guess I could wire up an LED (Vf=2.2V) and ~200 Ohms of resistance to draw only 50-100mA with a 12V supply. That should be low enough, right?
