Knock Sensor
I know this is not a prom issue but, I thought I would ask it here. Due to space requirements (Headers) I can not put my knock sensor back in it's original location. Where can I relocate it? Can I put a 90 degree fitting on in it and face the plug connector to the front of the engine? I heard I could put it in the radiator, but I don't think that would work.

You could thread a 90 degree fitting in the block. Since the sensor reads vibration in the block you probably want to use a fitting that is as close to cast iron as possible. Chances are you'll have to experiment with installation torque to get the sensor reading the way it did before. The possible problems I see are over sensitive (false knock) and undersensitive.
Placing the sensor in the radiator will not sense knock.

With Long Tube headers you need to do one of two things ... use a 90º fitting as already suggested ... or, simply move the knock sensor the the other side of the block. There is another hole in the other side of the block in the same spot.

I had been told by a engineer at GM that the knock sensor had to be mounted on the engine block in a water passage. He theory was vibration is picked up better in liquid than in air. Does he sound like he knows what he is talking about. He also said that if a person uses the incorrect amount of
anti - freeze to water that the knock sensor would not work correctly. He said straight anti - freeze would cause the motor to knock because the sensor could not detect it.

Yeah, this thread is old.... Really old. But, I'm bumping it.
Does anybody else have some different solutions? I'm dealing with block hugger headers that make using the block coolant plugs impossible for the KS. I'm thinking about running a Vortec Motor Knock Sensor, mounted in one of the bolt holes in the back of the head (Like a Vortec motor). However, the engine I'm working on does not have Vortec heads. Anybody see a problem with this?
