I just purchased a molded ALDL cable, and I am having problems getting it to work with winaldl. I am using a usb to serial adapter, but I do not think that this is the problem because I get data flow when I connect to the port with hyper terminal. My car is a 1989 Firebird Formula 305 TBI (stock). The settings that I am using in winaldl are:
ECM type : 1228746 //Not sure about this, or how to find my ecm type
Com port: 4 //This is correect
Baud: 2400 //Not sure
When I launch winaldl, I get a message box with the error symbol that says, "Unable to open serial port, COM4", and then there is no data flow when I click any of the buttons. Any help would be much appreciated.
1228746 should be correct. I had mine set at COM2.......4800 baud. After resetting the baud rate plug in your adapter and go to device manager and see which port it registers under.
It didn't work out. I am sure that it is on COM4, and hyper terminal still shows that data is flowing. Did you have to use the resistor that came with it? If I cannot get it working soon, I will try a computer with a built in COM port.
I have 2 laptops, new and old, and ive tryed straight serial, and usb -> serial, I have yet to get WinALDL to work at all.. aldl with tunerpro works fine
winaldl is old and unmaintained, and even then im sure it was pretty much "cross your fingers and hope for the best", and to top it off it runs on windows
dont beat your head trying to figure it out, its either gonna work or it isnt
if someone doesnt take some initiative soon, im going to have to write some *nix software for this myself
I am using the Moates aldl1 box. It has worked 1st time every time. Unlike my newer usb/serial adapter to use with the EBL I am now using. Sometimes if I plug it in too soon after starting the computer it makes the screen go squirrelly. Moates makes some good products. But like dr1 has said the winaldl is getting dated. TunerproRT is supposed to be getting an update soon (I think) that will include a winaldl ve learn type of screen. That might be of some help or just update to the EBL.
Thanks for the help. I was wondering if you could tell me what is a Moates aldl1 box and also what an EBL is? I will try a laptop with an actual com port later this week.
