AT29C256 EPROM chip failure?

Hey guys!

I finally got my 24 lb injectors installed onto my 355 today, and went to change my prom, but can no longer erase the chip for some reason!

I am able to read it, but I cannot either erase, or program the chip. I am 100% sure that all the poles are making good contact, so it is kind of pointing towards the chip being no good.

Has anyone else heard of a chip just up and failing like this?

Yep.

Static electricity will kill them instantly.

Eveyr now and then they just fail.

99% of mine are dead because i stepped on them or broke or pin or other physical damage though.

Had a couple fail for other reasons.

They aren't made anymore (haven't been for years). The wells have pretty much dried up for them (even Moates is out, and he had thousands).

Use a 27SF512 instead.

Remember you have to do an erase on them first and change the offsets.See them herehttp://www.moates.net/documentation.php?documentation_id=20

Cool!

I'll pick one or two up, and use a BIN stacker to make it all work

Make it 4.
Once you get a *decent* calibration, burn it, test drive it, and then wrap it in anti-static material, and put it in the gove box. You always, always, always want a known good chip, on hand to get you home in an emergency. Might even set up an entire spare ecm, for that once in a million day of when the lights go out.
