I was thinking of adding a more extensive section of "custom chips" to my bin archive. Make it just for 3rd gens, and either categorize it by year or by definition file code... 32B, 8D, 6E etc. It would include bins that have little things modified like for #24 injectors, or for a more aggressive cam, for EGR disabled, for VATS disabled etc etc and of course fully custom bins with a little descritption next to them with what mods the car would have. Would anyone be able to help out by supplying their bins with a little description attached ? This would greatly help out the "newbies" who just want to burn a chip and go. I know it helped me when I found Davis's webpage and his ZZ4 project where he lists the current bin he's using the car. That was my first "sucessful" bin where my car definately ran quicker. Then I took values from that bin and improved on them or carried them over to my current bin. What does everyone think about this ?...

I think it would be a good idea. I am currently working on my personal BIN for a mildly modded engine, which will have future BINS to coinside with additional mods I make over time.

Also, making some standard BINS with "commonly requested" revisions would be nice.

Of course, it will not solve the problem when people are not willing to get the UV eraser or burner; but it will at least give them an incentive for maybe purchasing the equipment instead of just buying a generic "aftermarket off-the-shelf" eprom.

But, I would put some "warning" about the BINS being accepted by the person downloading at their own risk and that these BINS are not warrantied or anything. Don't want to get a lawsuit from someone installing the wrong BIN and toasting their motor.

I think that it is a tossup. The good reasons are obvious. But, the bad reasons are that the user may not truly understand what the **** they are doing. Thus, they just pull a bin off your site and expect it to work. There are so many problems that could arise from that. HOWEVER, I definitely see the benefit of having a couple of well thought out bins somewhere and saying .... "Hey, this bin was modified for 24lb injectors. Check out what was modified.". That can be a real big help. But, most newbies are looking for quick fixes and many don't want to spend the time to really figure out what the heck is going on. This can create a bunch of unknowledgeable 'chip programmers' out there that try to 'walk the walk and talk the talk' but just don't have a fookin' clue what they are doing.

Long story short ... be careful and make sure that you pose EVERYWHERE that this is for educational purposes only.

.02 for a beginner.

I think it is a great idea. I know all aspects of motors etc but never looked into burning since a i had a guy in town to so for me. Now that he passed away Im looking into starting myself.

It would be nice to have a stock bin to compair to a mild one etc. Maybe with the moded bin a file that says what mods the motor has etc. So people whould know whats been changed compaired to mods.

I would definately have to agree with everyone. As a beginner I wanted a quick fix with as little work as possible. But as of yet I still haven'tbought my chip burning hardware. I have the part numbers handy and my credit card ready but i haven't bought them yet because I don't know enough yet to make a good decisions. I know enough to make decisions but not good ones. YES, the modded bins would be greatly helpful. Finding a way to moderate who gets to them is also a good idea. have some criteria or something that they have to meet before theyare allowed to acces the bins. I don't know for sure on how stringent you should set the criteria but I sue hope I meet it if you do set some. Any who, I'v beeenlurking around fora long while and learning a lot but i still havealingway to go.

Just my .02

Being a begginer, I think that this would be a good Idea. I'd love to do some comparisons between different bins. I'm not looking for a quick fix actually I'm trying to learn the worx(And I know that takes time). I think it's great that there's people out there that's willing to help. So far you all have been awsome. I appreciate all your replies! I cracked two pistons in my motor so I have delayed buying the equipment. But that will give me more time to learn about the proms and the actuall calibrations to change. I am fixen to purchase tunercat though so I can start comparing proms and learning my way around.
again...thanx alot everybody!

Disaster.
Teach them to fish. Then they can catch their own.
Yayayaya, that's about as popular as baby poo. But, folks do have to make a leap.
The trick for a beginner is slowly learning what the heck they are fooling with. Give them a false sense of security, and some will just blunder into disaster. Folks need to step up and take their own hit of responsibility.
New guys pobably see me as negative jerk on this, but I was there too. I also, remember having no one to even ask for help.
