AXCN bin....what is it...It's on my EPROM from TPIS...

I just got done removing the "LEVEL VI" TPIS EPROM from my Memcal. I installed a ZIF style socket from Radio Shack (99 cents). Upon re-installing the EPROM into the newly installed socket, I noticed that the label on the top has the AXCN code on it.

I did a search for this code, but came up with nothing. I'm thinking that this is what TPIS started out with when they burned the chip for my T/A.

The more I think about it, TPIS makes a killing off of their PROM's. I'm sure they didn't actually do much "tuning" to this stock AXCN bin before they sent the $500-and-something-odd-dollar chip my way. As soon as I find out what the AXCN bin is, and when I get my PROM burning equipment, I plan on finding out what TPIS did that makes this LEVEL VI chip so special.

I'm sure they just have a bunch of pre-programed BIN's sitting around that they throw into a customer's PROM to closely match what the customer says they have their car set up for......definately not fine-tuned.

I'm gonna have fun with this chip burning stuff....I can tell already

Correct, the AXCN is a manual tranny Corvette (speed density).

I am currently exploring the AXCR which is the same except programmed for an automatic trans.

I recently retuned a 1993 corvette with a CC305 cam and AFR heads.

The guy had tuning from midsouth corvette. He paid $450 for it.

He kept telling me they where supposed to be one of the best people for tuning vettes.

The car ran so rich that my eyes where still burning that night when i went to bed. The thing drove like total crap and made no power under 1400rpm.

I retuned it and he has since called me 4 times to tell me how much better the car is.

I think its outrageous how much companies are charging for tuning especially when its not a true custom tuning. I mean he paid $450 for something that would barely drive.

As noted above, it's a bin for a manual-tranny 'vette.

Here's a nice long thread on the subject: <a href="https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/showthread.php?s=&threadid=113065">Corvette BIN</a>...

Car: 87 IROC (low 12's)
Engine: 400 sbc .040 over
Transmission: 700r mod
About a month ago, I also looked onto my tpis level 4 chip and discovered one thing in particular was that the constants were set at 5 points below(making it feel good and rich!!) and the rest of the tables were to me very stock looking.Did not pay too much attention to tables pertaining to transmission.
