Which chip for my 86 305 TPi to a '91 L98 350 swap????
I have an 86 trans am...originally had 305 TPI, Im in the process of putting in an L98 350. What chip should I get for it. the L98 is from a '91. Should I buy a '91 chip, is there an 86 350 chip. I want the jet 6 pack. Could I just get the '87 TPI chip. Thanx, Brian

I THINK I can make this into a PROM question...letsee..
If you are wondering about what chip to start with, you will have to decide on whether or not your using the 91 Computer/ wireharness & SD (Speed Density) setup, or are you going to stick with the 86 MAF setup.
I will assume that you will try and keep everything 86 as much as possible, so go with the ARAP BIN from 1989. These can be obtained from your dealer, some parts stores etc...
The ARAP Bin is for a 350, and if you are running reasonably Stock, I would assume that you would not need to modify the BIN, and it should run pretty well.
John
Almost forgot, You are faced with a slight problem, use the 86 TPI intake or the 91 intake. If you want to keep the 86 Setup AND the Cold Start Injector then you will need to start with a 87-88 350 Chip.
BUT If you want to use the 91 TPI intake then you will HAVE to start with the ARAP BIN, no questions asked. Because there is NO cold start injector, your car will start VERY hard.

Don't forget that your 86 TPI manifold base center two mounting faces are at the wrong angle for those 91 cylinder heads.

I'll find out for sure in a day or two, but I think the used L98 I got came with the TPI all still on it, so I shouldnt have to worry about that
...so your saying that I can go out and buy the ARAP bin, plug it into my 86 computer, and go.
