First burn a success

i dont have my 7747 wired in yet so what i did was erase a 2732 chip and copy an ads super chip image to the blank prom and install it in my old ecm. The car fired right up and seemed to be fine but the check engine light was on the entire time. Theres no codes. Possibly because the original prom is 1k and this is 4k with the bottom 3k empty. I dont have my scan tool completley wired up yet so i cant see whats going on. Im thinking maybe its in backup, limp home mode.

Nick, when I did it, I copied the data into the top 1k of the EPROM. I also used a 2532a instead of a 2732a.

You're almost definitely in limp home mode if the engine light is on and you programmed any of the lower 1k areas rather than the end 1k.

The 4k prom has two more address pins than the 1k prom. Those two pins replace two mode select pins in the 1k prom. The mode selected on the 1k prom by the ECM activates the 3k-4k address on the 4k prom (both connected to 5V).

You could use the first 1k bytes in the prom but then you must build a small adapter between the prom and the ECM to disconnect the two new address prins from the ECM and connect them to GND instead.

You could also connect them to two switches. One 5k resistor from 5V (pin 24) to each of the address pins (pin 19 and pin 21) and a switch from each of the address pins to ground (pin 12). That way you can select the range to use. One stock, one ADS Superchip, and two more.

19 21
on on : 0k-1k
off on : 1k-2k
on off : 2k-3k
off off : 3k-4k

Do you really need that huge picture in your signature to show up three times in the same thread ? Us slower folks dont always appreciate that

Nick,

Actually your sig picture used a low compression factor. You can save this one and replace your current sig. This one is only 16775 bytes. Your BIG one is 71226 bytes.

You can right-click the pictures and select properties to check the picture size.

http://w1.605.telia.com/~u60513000/temp/sig.jpg

Don't rewrite your sig code to use the one I uploaded, just overwrite your current sig.jpg with this one and all previous posts will load quicker too.

Unless you have your browser set to not cache anything, it will only download the image once, then read it again from your hard drive.

nsimmons, I've got a cable if you want to use the Moates software. I don't have a laptop right now though, so you'd have to bring your own Oh yeah, and I have a bunch of 29256's if you want to buy some. Not sure if they'll work with your ECM though.

Jonas, would you happen to know if this same thing could be done with a 29256 chip? It makes sense since the ECM only accesses 128K... hmm... I need to go find some data sheets Just another thing to postpone studying for my Control Systems final...

That would be so cool to have two different sets in one chip! One for the track, one for highway use, etc.

AlexJH,

Sure, As long as you use a larger eprom of the same type, and put switches on the extra address pins.
