Car: 1991 Camaro RS
Engine: The Wicked six'ah
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: stock 3.08's
Chip Burning...
Hi, I am new with computers. I can get on the internet and play. and use word ect.. But The Prom thing is way too much for me..
All I know is that I have a 1988 Camaro SC that came stock with a 305Tbi(LO3), And i put in a 350TBI from a 1988 1ton pickup. And this ECM Chip, needs to be swapped/reprogrammed for a 350..
With The LO3 Chip(s) The 350 runs 9.3-4's in the 1/8mi.. I have way little power above 4500rpm.. Most power is made at 15-2300rpm.. I have a Lock-up TC 1600-2300RPM.. 2:73's in rear.
Not sure if that can help you to help me. I can try this PROM Burning thing. If it doesnt Work out for me.. I guess the worst would be I'd have to buy a chip..

First thing to do is put aside some evenings, get a few beers in and read your way through all the relevant 'stickies' at the top of this forum. They will tell you everything you need. If (when) you need clarification on certain things post up and I'm sure you'll be answered but first things first....read the stickies!

Yes, the biggest investment you will make (besides some equipment which you can sell) is the initial time to learn. It does help if your car is able to be driven so you can do some "tests".
You may wish to go to www.moates.net and buy and adapter and flash prom for you ECM. It's vastly superior than trying to reprogram the existing eprom in the current ECM. Also, eproms (unlike flash proms) have a relatively short "reprogramming" life. Maybe 25 times, 50 if you are REALLY lucky, with an eprom. Flash prom is in the 1,000s.
Also, reprogramming eproms steadily require more "exposure" time to the UV Eraser to erase...until one day, it doesn't erase. Going Flash Proms avoids having to buy a UV Eraser.

I think i will finish my Exhaust and stuff and then we'll figure the computer stuff out.. Cause if i start with this chip burning.. Im going to get a migrane from Hel* and Im gonna need a HUGE Bottle of Excedrine...

Actually, why not try both? IMO it is best to start reading in "small doses" initially. You will find that as you read and re-read, that initally, it doesn't make much sense and may even seem WAY beyond you.
But, as you re-read (and re-read) that slowly the fog starts to thin and then you can actually start to see light.
I would say start by setting aside 1/2 to 1 hour each day and do a little reading. Anytime you come across a term that doesn't make sense, just make a post and someone will try and explain.
Trust me, it's actually a LOT easier than you think. The best thing, after you start to understand things, you can sometimes do things that are faster inside the eprom than mechanically doing it - and you don't even get dirty doing it. (But I suggest wiping some old grease on yourself so your wife thinks you worked a lot harder than you actually did).
