TCC lockup speed

Since I switched from 32B to 6E (APYM) my tranny locks up at very low mph. I'm curious if I just can transfer the original values to the 6E bin. So my question is if the following values sounds ok to you? The 6E looks a bit different though compared to 6E.

Original bin:

TCC Unlock Speed (Low Gears) 39 MPH
TCC Lock Speed (Low Gears) 41 MPH
TCC Unlock,Speed (Higher Gears) 39 MPH
TCC Lock Speed (Higher Gears) 41 MPH

6E bin
Low Speed Limit For Low Gear Lock To Unlock Transition 20.00 MPH
Low Speed Limit For Low Gear Unlock To Lock Transition 21.00 MPH
High Speed Limit For Low Gear Lock To Unlock Transition 255.00 MPH
High Speed Limit For Low Gear Unlock To Lock Transition 255.00 MPH
Low Speed Limit For High Gear Lock To Unlock Transition 20.00 MPH
Low Speed Limit For High Gear Unlock To Lock Transition 21.00 MPH
High Speed Limit For High Gear Unlock To Lock Transition 255.00 MPH
High Speed Limit For High Gear Lock To Unlock Transition 255.00 MPH

Can I just replace the 20 and 21 values with 39 and 41 or what is your suggestion? Are these values normal?

Re: TCC lockup speed

Yes, you can change the 20 & 21 to 39 & 41, that will work. Setting the TCC lockup points is much user preference. Which is also affected by the engine, convertor stall, and rear gears. One item to watch for is constant locking/unlocking of the TCC. That is hard on it. The other is leaving it unlocked for prolonged periods of time. That will run the tranny temperature up.

Otherwise set them up the way you like it to drive. Make a big difference.

Thanks! I will make the change to the former settings and modify from there. Just had to make sure I didn't break anything...

No you wont really break anything, but i think it will be annoying to drive if the values are too high or too low. Lock up too soon and it will prolly be locking right as soon as its put itself into overdrive, then it will prolly chug down to some low RPMs. if its too high its like youll be waiting and waiting for it to lock while you have to take the RPMs to a relativly high speed just to cruise or lightly accelerate.

i like mine to lock at about 40 to 45 mph.

As mentioned above (and with the few cautionary advisories) - this is one area you actually get to have a little fun and improve the way the car feels (with those few cautions mentioned).

And, it's even more fun if you ever get a chance to work on a newer PCM with full electronic tranny controls.

Re: TCC lockup speed

Usually the high gear (4th) lock/unlock speeds are higher than the lower gear speeds. That is strange that you had them the same, in both bins. If the speeds are far enough apart between low gear and high, you can actually go into 3rd gear, lock, goto 4th unlocked, then lock again! Of course this highly depends on the position of your right foot.

I am locking/unlocking at 40/38 in 4th, and 32/30 in low gears.
