7427 ECM question
My latest project has been installing fuel injection on my 305 boat. I am using the 7427 ECM and was wondering what is needed as far as sensors to get the ECM to work correctly. I have all the basics hooked up.
TPS
IAC
MAP
Temp Sensor
Ignition Module
Fuel Pump Relay
Injectors
Not hooked up and has been disabled in the tune.
VSS
Transmission stuff
EGR
Purge
The boat runs like crap and is missing horribly and will hardly start. I am just wondering if there is something that needs to be hooked up in order for this particular ECM to run the engine. It is possible that the distributor and coil that I got out of the junkyard could be bad.

Re: 7427 ECM question
Make sure that you are using the value of ALL the injectors in the bank for the flow rate. That would be 4 x 19 or 76 lbs/hr, for the Edelbrock setup.

Re: 7427 ECM question
OK, I have the fuel pressure set to about 40 psi. Is that to high? I don't have the instructions for the Edelbrock setup anymore but it seems like they recommend about 35-38 psi.

Have you set the timing yet?

Re: 7427 ECM question
Edelbrock states 42-45 in their instructions. 34-38 @ idle

Re: 7427 ECM question
Ive had coils go out. They usually arc out internally between the primary and secondary coils. The car misses and burns out modules. Usually I replace the coil and module as a pair because of this. Check to make sure the base of teh distributer, hold down clamp, and area around the clamp where it constacts the intake are squeaky clean and free of corrosion as this is the ground path. Also make sure the wires and cap are in good shape. Anything that causes arcing will trash teh module over time and cause no starts and poor performance.
