Trying to get 27SF512 to work.

Hello I'm a newbie to the DIY prom and I got a problem getting my new chip to work.

I got the Burn1, a header to read my old chip, and the G1 adapter with an S2 ZIF on it. So I'm just trying to see if the chip will work I read the old chip and I put the same bin on to the new chip with out any changes to the programing. I put the new chip in the adapter and the old memcal on the adapter under the 2 smaller chips next to the old chip. I shove the thing in to the ECM and I turn the key and the fan comes on but the SES light blinks once meaning its not in limp home mode... But I still stopped right their because I know this is not normal.

I set the Buffer start to end 000000 > 003FFF and the chip start > end 00C000 > 00FFFF the car is an 89 350 I get a 16K bin from the old chip I'm trying to put it on a 27SF512 chip

What am I doing wrong?

Re: Trying to get 27SF512 to work.

Your buffer & chip offsets are correct. Did you try a verify with the burn1 after burning.

The PROM goes into the G1 with the notch facing outward (at the end of the adapter).

If the chip/BIN is the same as came with the car, then the fan running is typcially limp mode. However, if you get the SES blink (on briefly, blink off, then on solid) the ECM should be running from the chip.

RBob.

Re: Trying to get 27SF512 to work.

Go to Moates.net and check for the chip offset page. Once you find it save it to your favourites. You will need to change the offsets when reading your stock prom to burning a new one on the 27sf512 chip. I use the burn1 and 27sf512 chips and I have my chip address start at 00F000 and end at 00FFFF and chip buffer addressing at 000000 start and 000FFF end. That is what i use to burn my 27sf512 chips. Im using the 7747 ecm. Now you will have to read the stock prom at a different address wich could be the 2732A read only setting or one of the other 3 depending on your ecm and chip# But I know that the 27sf512 chip addresses are the ones that I posted. Are you using moates software for the burn1???

That only works for a 4K bin, which the '7747 uses, a larger bin, such as a 32K bin found in ECMs such as the '7730/'7727/'7749/etc, will have an offset of 8000. 16K bin starts at C000 according to the moates documentation.

Re: Trying to get 27SF512 to work.

Yes, after burning I verified the chip with the buffer.

I got the APYU3516 bin off moats once and when I got the burner I read my chip to see if they were the same and it says it is not the same. I dont know if that means anything??

About the chip going in to the g1, on the burner it shows the chip notch going toward the handle side closest to the handle of the g1 and I did that for the burner. However in the pictures I saw for the adapter it showed the chip going in the other way. with the notch facing away from the handle.

I read a post about you saying that about the SES light and it does go on briefly, blinks off, then stays solid on. However the fan is running when the engine is not running.

I am using Moates software to read the chip and burn them the car uses the 27C128 stock chip and the Moates set the off sets to
Chip > 000000 > 003FFF
Buffer 000000> 003FFF
For the stock chip and the bin is 16K

Re: Trying to get 27SF512 to work.

So it sounds like I'm burning my chips right, putting the chips in the g1 adapter right, so why are they not working?

I tried stacking the bin 4 times on the chip and it still wont work. I stacked it with TunerPro then used moate's software to put it on the chip and when I burned the stacked BIN the off sets were set to the 27SF512 on moate's software. Would that only let it burn 16k on the chip instead of 64k??

Also after reading the data sheet on the 27SF512 there are different types of these chips I don't if this matters or not but could someone tell me what chip they have and works with your car? Looking at the chip under 27SF512 there is another number mine says 70-3C-PGE.

Another thing is my ECM is not 165, it is 445. The 445 ECM is just a more updated version of the 165 ECM. could this have anything to do with this?

Re: Trying to get 27SF512 to work.

I found out why it didn't work! I checked continuity to the pins and the 6th one in on the S2 ZIF was not soldered to the adapter board. So I soldered it, put it back in the ECM, turned the key, and it worked! Well I didn't start it but I turned it to the on position and the fan did not come on.

Thank you every one for all the ideas and help!

P.S. started the car today and it ran like it should. Now I get to start tuning!

I guess Craig isn't getting enough sleep again. I'm glad you got it figured out. Good catch!
