350 TBI correct computer/prom

Hello, i have a 88 camaro that originally came with a 305 and has been half converted over to a 350. I've been going through it and slowly putting the correct parts on the car.

Today I pulled the computer out of the dash and stumbled upon the following:
1228063 computer.
HYPERTECH PN: 128872 (I looked this up, and its for a 5.0 pontiac/chevy)

I've searched around and I'm a bit confused.

should I get the 1228746 ECM, then a chip for that?

what stock chip should I get?

Thanks.

I found this: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...S_425825489___

Which is for a 90 caprice 5.7l

I think this is what I'm after, can anybody verify please?

Re: 350 TBI correct computer/prom

If you're going to be doing DIY PROM for this car (as the title of this section suggests) then you'd want to use the ECM & software set that you're most comfortable working with that's also compatible with the equipment you're planning to use.

Some factors to consider are if you want/need auto transmission TCC control or shift-light for manual trans, a IAT sensor input, AIR diverter control, CCP control, VATS function, and maybe a few other things.

Re: 350 TBI correct computer/prom

well DIY isnt something im going to immediatey dive into. but it is something i want to learn about in the near future. for the time being I just want to get the car running again (i managed to snap off a pin on the hypertech)

so for right now i just want to run a stock bin, but i dont want to make my transistion to DIY harder when I decide to go that route and end up replacing the stuff again.

If you're careful you can solder the pin back on good enough to read the bin from the chip with a chip reader/burner.

As mentioned above, what sort of equipment does your car/engine have and what are your preferences as far as what's running the engine?

For example: some TBI's use an IAT sensor and some do not.
Some ECMs are better/easier for tuning modified engines because of having more controllable parameters and/or larger tables to work with.

Before you choose an ECM and code to work with you probably want to look around to see what kind of support each one has, and how they match what you want to run with. Hopefully you'll get some more opinions on here once you say what all you have exactly and what you need it to do.

Re: 350 TBI correct computer/prom

Tried to resolder the pin but it broke right up against the epoxy and I cant get it to stick.

Car has IAT
5 speed manual
has AIR
not sure what ccp is
no vats.

I doubt it would stick good enough for use, but you should be able to read the bin off of it, then burn it to a good chip.

CCP is ECM controlled Charcoal Canister Purge.

er, I meant I couldnt get it to stick at all theres not enough sticking out of the epoxy to do anything with. I have another car at the moment so im not so worried about the bin it was running (it was for a 305 anyway). so I would just like to get the correct equipment in there.

Edit: driving the civic does kinda suck though

Re: 350 TBI correct computer/prom

There's lots of .bin files you could download and try. Look on Moates site listed up in the stickies. He makes equipment for Prom burning but also has a download section with tons of files.

Re: 350 TBI correct computer/prom

What about the ECM itself?
Should i leave the 1228063 or is the 1228746 a drop in replacement? or is there something else I should go for?

Re: 350 TBI correct computer/prom

I've looked through most of these pages already and have not seen anything that mentioned the 1228063 ECM.

I was reading https://www.thirdgen.org/promintro
and it looks like the mask my car originally used was $4D. I searched moates for this and could not find it. searched thirdgen.org for this and all I found was one post with a defunct link.

For now I think im just going to pick up a 1228063 ECM from a junkyard and run its 305 prom right now.

Either I'm really retarded with searching for information, or there just isnt that much information on this ECM available.

Re: 350 TBI correct computer/prom

I'm very busy with a project so I didn't look for what you need, but if it was me, I'd plan for the future and look for an ECM/code combo that is very well supported to use for my project.

Yeah thats why I'm leary of keeping the 1228063, there really doesnt seem to be that much information on it at all.

From what I've been reading I THINK the 1228746 is compatable but I'm not sure.

My head is kinda fried from reading all the tuning/ecm information thats out there.
