URGENT! How to read chip to bin
Hey all,
My car is now parked in the middle of the parking lot (which I will get a ticket soon). I was playing around with setting up my bin but nothing is working.
I have a 1986 305 TPI MAF 165 car. I bought a chip that I got from TPIPARTS.NET that i've been friggin trying to read and import the settings from THAT chip into Tunerpro using the AUTOPROM, so that I can take the info from the TPIPARTS.NET chip and save it into a BIN file so I can edit from there... How the heck do I do this??
Another thing is that I also installed the moates G1 adapter with the ZIF socket in the ECM, but now I put the chip in and I just turned the key on the 'on' position and it sounds like the fuel pump is priming non-stop. Did I not install the chip correctly? How do I put the chip in the G1 adapter ZIF socket properly so that my car runs off that chip? Is this even possible?? I'm a bit worried to start the car and blow it up!
Thanks for the help I really need to move the car asap ....

Stock memcal needs to be plugged into the adaptor and the chip has to be orientated probably in the socket.

Just put your stock chip back in and drive it home. Mess with it in your drive way.
As Zepher said. You must have the chip in the right way. Sounds like you have it in backwards.
Also are you sure your offset addresses/buffer are right, etc..?

UPDATE: okay.. drove it home.. figured it out.. I had placed the chip in the ZIF socket upside down with the notch part facing the handle instead of the opposite side. Got it to work.. Now, this chip works, but I still don't know how I can take the chip out and read it from the AUTOPROM /TUNERPRO RT so I can create a BIN file out of it... I tried multiple times do "download bin from emulator" and it says "Download Successful" all the time but the BIN that I get is all messed up with the SA tables all over the place as well as many other settings.. I tried putting the chip on the AUTOPROM zif socket in many different orientations but still didn't work.. Am I doing it right or is there another way?
Also, what is offset addresses/buffer? I don't know what to set these at or where they are...

Re: URGENT! How to read chip to bin
I had an ADS Superchip that I always wanted to "read" and customize, but it really ain't worth it....
The easiest thing would be to throw your TPIPARTS chip in and move the car....
After that I would just download your stock bin from Moates and start from there....
My ZIF handle is orientated to the right side of the ECM and the notch on the chip is on the left. The red stripe on the ribbon from your AUTOPROM is on the left as well when it's in place of your chip.
On the bottom of this page is a link for "GM ECM Bin" Library. You can find your stock Tune there.

Wow do I type slow!!!! Looks like you updated this thread while I was finding a Picture and Link.
For sh*ts and Giggles I would love to find out what's on my ADS chip anyway.... I hope someone can help you find a way to pull that Bin from your aftermarket chip

Re: URGENT! How to read chip to bin
Get a "HDR1" from Moates to read off the existing memcal chip.
Plug the memcal onto that and insert into the AutoProm ZIF socket.
you could rig up something quickly but would be a PITA to keep separated.
Always keep a working backup chip in the car somewhere to pop in in case you get settings FUBAR away from home.
Makes experimenting less stressful.

The HDR1 is for reading off the "memcal" only right? That's what it seems from looking at the pics/instructions... I have an actual chip like this one: http://www.moates.net/c2-sst-27sf512....html?cPath=26
I want to read the bin from this chip with the AUTOPROM and tunerpro rt... is this possible or do I need the HDR1 for reading these chips?

Re: URGENT! How to read chip to bin
Within TunerPro, go to the menu item "Tools/Moates Prom I/O".
On the top left, select "27SF512".
On the top right, select Chip Addressing 00C000-00FFFF, buffer addressing 000000-003FFF. (valid since you're working with a 16k $32/6E file)
Insert 28 pin chip into top of APU1 or BURN2, with notch toward handle and chip pushed away from handle.
Select 'read chip', then save buffer to file. Choose file name and location.
Insert blank chip, select 'erase chip', then 'program chip' and 'verify'.
You now have a copy of the original chip and a starter file as well.
Hope this helps,
Craig
