Memcal eprom issue

After programming using the Moates read out header and the memcal adapter I've got no starts. So I attach the Memcal adapter out of the ECM to the pocket programmer with the memcal and eprom Just like I would if I was just reading the memcal using the header adapter and it tells me the proms inserted incorrectly. So I move the header back one set of pins (Adapter to Adapter ) and now the pocket programmer moves, verify's and saves as normal which I can bring back up in TunerPro just like I edited it. Anyway my question is Prom pins 1 (Program Power) and 28 (power supply) as fed through the memcal unit should they be the very first 2 pins side by side or the second two with the first 2 blank. My adapter has the first 2 blank and I'm thinking it's my problem.

Thanks
Rick

Of the MEMCALs I've seen it would start with the first set of pins. Pop the cover off and see if that is how it is set up.

The Moates adapter has 4 extra pin holes than the OEM MEMCAL, so you need to move the HDR1 one pair of pins away from the end.

Now I understand what 90Formula is doing. The PROM is in a G1 adapter, which does have the extra sets of holes.

Re: Memcal eprom issue

70 pins, yes thanx. Seems after any changes I make in programming the car starts momentarily and then dies. I finally got a couple of AT29C256 flash proms so it's a quicker doom now and the not so funny thing is I'm a drivability tech with 36 years experiance and a computer geek yet .. No Start... I Think, Checksum errors but I don't get that error code. Factory bin fires the car right up with the adapter. I do somthing as simple as disable the EGR report function and It doesn't run... I'll continue to search but any thoughts would be great. Thank You

Re: Memcal eprom issue

Are you sure you're using the correct XDF with the bin?

Re: Memcal eprom issue

Good Question, I'm importing the Super_8dm2.ecu file into TunerProRt for the XDF and i've also used that ecu file in winbin 1.4.. Thanx for that. I'll try another one...

Re: Memcal eprom issue

Well... I'm up and running on the G1 with a modified bin. It seems that I needed a clean boot, nothing running in the background and no mouse movement. I got a chip that starts and runs good. So now I think I have a place to start. I got an old laptop. Might try that.. anyway

This site has got some of the best folks in automotive and I'm very privileged to be able to have a place like this to even ask questions. The knowledge gained is invaluable and I just wanted to say thanks.
