sounds like your lighter's coil element is shorting out. Does it look corroded or distorted? Go get a new one and see if that fixes it. Otherwise the retention clip in the socket is bent up and shorting when the lighter gets pushed onto it.

Maybe the lighter its self is FUBAR'd causing the circut to close without the resistance of the heat coil. Try and use something else like a radar detector or phone charger with a good fuse in and see if it works. Worst you could do is pop an other fuse

I hade the same problem when i first got my car, look inside the part mounted to the dash and see if the prongs are pushed realy close to the edges. Of they are, your lighter is grounding out the terminal ment to go to the inside edge of the element. I tried to bend mine back and broke it. But the replacement piece that goes inside isn't very much at discount or autozone etc. Hope this helps. Laters

I had the same problem with my 89 RS Convt
every time I put the phone charger in out went the fuse. For $10.00 I bought a replacement from a parts store. No problem anymore. Wish everything I have had to fix costs so little...

For instance, the alternater, the starter, the timing chain, exhaust system...still trying to find out what the timing should be set at. Hood says 0 degree the chilton 8 degree..
