cable speedo to electronic speedo
I’m new to this board and have a big problem and was hoping you guys could help me out. I just did the 3.1 to 350 conversion. Everything works great except I can’t get the speedometer to work. I used the trans from a 1989 Camaro rs( is a cable driven speedo) and my car is a 92 (which had an electronic Speedo) So i switched the cable driven Speedo sensor form the 1989 trans to the electronic Speedo sensor that was on the 1992.The car is tbi and i used the wiring harness from the 1989 car. I am now stuck with how to wire it so it works correctly with the ecm etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Let me see if I understand. You've got a '92, with the electric speedometer. Your transmission is an '89 Camaro, with the mechanical cable. Soo... you need to convert the mechanical drive to electrical.
Options:
The Abbot Cable X box converts from mech to electrical, I believe.
You could also swap in the '89 Speedometer and VSS buffer box. The speedo has an led assembly in the rear that will generate a VSS pulse, sent to the buffer box. That might do it. Check out your service manual. It's got lots of good details. I hope this helps!

as far as feeding the proper signal to the ECM, i dont have a clue.
however, 90-92 TBI cars have a buffer box.... you'll need to snag the box from one of them and wire it in so the VSS signal goes into the bufferbox and then into the speedo signal. that output MAY also work into the ECM... im not positive
you need to get the wiring schmatic for a 92 camaro to figure out the buffer box, and speedo inputs...
and you need one for a 89 and figure out where to put the input to the ecm.

Let me verify what I have done. I think im confusing some people. I had a 1989 parts car when I did my swap on my 92 camaro rs. I used the wiring harness computer Trans and other miscellaneous parts. Now most of you know on my 92 camaro the Trans has a electronic Speedo sensor and electric speedometer. The 1989 has a cable driven Speedo sensor and cable driven speedometer.
This is what I have done.
I took the electric Speedo sensor out of my v6 92 camaro Trans. Then I took out the cable driven Speedo sensor out of the 1989 trans. I then switched them. I put the v6 electric speed sensor in the 1989 trans. So now I have both the electric Speedo sensor and electric speedometer. No I am stuck trying to figure out how to wire the speed buffer etc so that it works. I think Mr dude is on the right track.

im following ya.
i know that TBI bufferbox is what you need.
however, i dont know how to wire it off the top of my head... you need the wiring layout of both cars to figure it out...
