headlights work, no power at key???
i have completly lost my *** on this one. my car was not starting, cranking, but not starting. we noticed that there was an arc from the driverside header to the fuel evap hard line. i decided to look into it further at another time. the next time i came out to mess with the car, the key was doing absolutly nothing. no power at the key. i started tracing the wires. at the big terminal on the starter and the back of the alternator, i have full power. there is power at the big red wire going into the fire wall. HOWEVER, there is no power at the module mounted on the top side of the steering comlumn. please help, i have no idea. thanks, MATT

check all fusible links by the starter..
do you have an open element? it may have grounded one of the wires to you coil module..
but i would look into the fusible links...

thank you for replying. i checked all the fusible links at the starter, even the one closer to the alternator. they all have power at both sides. the engine has a Holley Stealth Ram FI system, so the stock coil has been replaced by an MSD canister coil, so that coil problem that is so common couldnt be the cause. i have the wiring diagrams, nothing about this situation makes sense.

did you retain your original ecm or did you use a stand alone ecm like the commander 950 with the hsr. it sounds vats related to me.

i used the Commander 950, but that is working just fine. the problem has nothing to do with that. the problem is that i have battery power going into the car at the driverside harness connector, but no power anywhere inside the car (under the dash). do youknow of any other major fusible links near that area? other than the obvious ones inside the engine compartment?

did it start before hand or is this the first time attempting. if first time find the starter enable relay in drivers kick behind rubber crap just put the 2 yellows together and try to start it. i had to bypass mine in my 89 with the ramjet. but i grounded out the relay one of the green wires did the same thing

the car has been running for about a year now with this setup, this problem just came out of no where. the relay behind the drivers kick panel has already been hardwired, i had to do that when i removed the original ECM. but the key still controlls it, i just fed the power to it and ran it to the starter, and ran a new ground. when the yellows are jumped, the starter cranks. so i know i have power coming in and continuity to the starter. the problem is that the key and everything on the column has no power. thanks.

i wish it were that simple. the ignition switch on the top of the column isnt recieving any power. the swtich is working fine, the power just isnt getting to it. thats why my original question was pretty much just if anyone knows of any major fusible links between the firewall and the column. thanks.

When the key is in the on position, does the security light on the dash come on? if so then the vats has been tripped. Hope this helps.

does this account for there being no power at the ignition module that sits on top of the steering column, though? the two thick red wires that lead to that module have no power. and if i read the wiring diagram correct they should have battery power at all times? thank you for your help.
